Nicki Minaj reveals she secretly supported Trump because music industry is a ‘Democratic family’

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Nicki Minaj has revealed in a new interview that she became President Donald Trump’s supporter long before she publicly declared it.

The rapper shared that she initially kept it private, fearing her fans might not like it.

“I felt that way already about him, just that I didn’t dare act like that publicly. It’s been ingrained in everyone’s brain in the music business that we are supposed to be a Democratic family. I just knew they would not like me supporting Trump,” she admitted.

Minaj disclosed to Time magazine that her political views began to shift around 2022 and 2023, when her $20 million mansion in a gated enclave was swatted multiple times.

She also accused California Governor Gavin Newsom of not helping her despite her plea. “He just completely ignored me, with all the money I spent in taxes,” the 43-year-old singer claimed.

However, following an April 2025 swatting attack at her house, she received a lot of support from a cadre of highly online Republicans.

One of them was Anna Paulina Luna, the former model and Turning Point USA activist-turned-congresswoman from Florida, who helped Minaj connect with federal law enforcement officials and a private security firm.

“I was shocked. I’d never seen anyone in politics treat me that way,” the ‘Anaconda’ hitmaker told the publication. She further disclosed that this was the point when she started considering going public as part of Trump’s MAGA movement.

“That’s what made me say that I don’t care to keep this a secret anymore,” Minaj asserted.

But Minaj’s honest confession has not gone down well with many online. In the past, she supported notable Democratic politicians like Andrew Cuomo, Kathy Hochul, and Letitia James.

An X user commented, “nicki conforming to TIME MAGAZINE she’s been a republican for years and kept quiet to benefit her career is lowkey sooo morally bankrupt idk why tf she’s even admitting that 😭.”

“Soooooo she’s being entirely selfish and endorsing republicans because it benefits her despite the fact that they are destroying the lives of her fans and the communities that she’s leeched off for her entire career…who’s surprised,” another X user wrote.

One disappointed person said, “Literally. I know she saw how hard her fanbase was rooting for the Democrats to win during the 2020 and 2024 elections. They were all over the timeline. She’s just selfish.”
