Nicolas Cage shares first public reaction to 'Spider-Noir' cancellation: 'One season is perfect'

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Nicolas Cage has made his first public statement after the second season of ‘Spider-Noir’ was not approved to move forward. During a recent interview, the ‘Ghost Rider’ actor shared that, for him, having just one season is enough.

Cage’s comment echoes what he said in a previous interview, when the first season of the superhero series was released in May. At the time, he said, “Whether it happens or not, all of us achieved what we set out to do, and it works on its own.”

Speaking to Deadline, Cage addressed the future of ‘Spider-Noir’ after the Prime Video series was not approved for a second season. “For me, one season is perfect, having said what I wanted to say with this dangerous, innovative, pop-art Spider-Man,” he said, adding, “Onwards, upwards, inwards.”

The discontinuation of the Prime Video series has sparked discussion on social media, but Cage’s latest comments suggest he is at peace with the show ending after one season. Previously, Cage spoke to Deadline about the character and what inspired him to portray the superhero.

“I wanted to go back to those old ’30s and ’40s movies and watch some Howard Hawks and pick up the speed of delivery from those actors,” he said in June. “I also thought of Double Indemnity with Fred MacMurray and Barbara Stanwyck and tried to embody that essence, mannerisms and vocalization to collide it with Stan Lee’s masterpiece of Spider-Man and see what spark I could generate."

"Kind of like a Roy Lichtenstein painting, I wanted to do something that would be both new for me and hopefully for the viewer," he added. However, according to the publication, the cancellation of ‘Spider-Noir’ does not mean Cage is stepping away from his work with Prime Video.

For those unaware, Cage is set to star in ‘Madden,’ in which he portrays legendary football coach and broadcaster John Madden. The movie is expected to be released on November 18.

Cage’s version of Spider-Man Noir first appeared in the Oscar-winning animated film ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’. 

The live-action series is not a continuation of the animated film. Instead, it is set in 1930s New York and follows Ben Reilly, a private investigator who is struggling to leave his superhero past behind after a personal tragedy.

Besides Cage, the cast includes Lamorne Morris, Brendan Gleeson, Abraham Popoola, and Li Jun Li. Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal serve as executive producers, alongside Harry Bradbeer, who directed the first two episodes.
