LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Nicolas Cage has spent most of his life in the film industry and is fully aware of his capabilities as an actor. Known for bringing depth and life to every character he plays, the 'Spider-Man Noir' actor recently opened up during an interaction about directors he believes may no longer want to work with him.

Cage practically claimed that Christopher Nolan would never work with him again after he turned down a role in Nolan’s 2002 film 'Insomnia'. He also mentioned other filmmakers, including Woody Allen and Paul Thomas Anderson. According to Cage, he may have 'hurt' their 'feelings' by rejecting their projects.

However, Cage also revealed that one director invited him back to work together despite the fact that he had previously said no to the filmmaker.

Nicolas Cage reveals which directors never called him back

Cage recently reflected on how rejecting movie roles may have affected his relationships with several well-known directors in Hollywood. During a recent Q&A with The New York Times, the actor admitted that filmmakers often take rejection personally. “Most of them, they get their feelings hurt and don’t call you back,” he said. “It’s happened a million times to me.”

The actor specifically mentioned Christopher Nolan, claiming the filmmaker stopped contacting him after Cage passed on a role in Nolan’s 2002 psychological thriller 'Insomnia'. Cage also revealed that directors such as Paul Thomas Anderson and Woody Allen no longer reached out to him after projects they discussed failed to materialize.

“They don’t call me back,” he claimed. “The Paul Thomas Anderson movie was a very early movie. He’d shown me a short film with Philip Baker Hall, who was in ‘Hard Eight.’ And we were going to do something, and it didn’t work out.”

For those unaware, 'Insomnia' followed two Los Angeles homicide detectives investigating a murder case in Alaska. The psychological thriller was both a critical and commercial success.

Nicolas Cage reveals why he couldn’t refuse David Russell twice

The actor revealed that David O' Russell was the only filmmaker who reached out to him again after Cage had previously turned down one of his projects.

The 'Longlegs' actor explained that despite rejecting David Russell’s earlier offer, the filmmaker still 'invited' him back. "Anyway, David did call me, and it showed a lot of class that he would call me back and invite me again, and I didn’t want to say no to him again because I have great respect for his talent," he added.

Cage did not reveal which Russell film he had initially rejected, only saying that it happened "a million years ago." Reflecting on the experience, the actor admitted that Russell remains the only director who approached him again after being turned down once before.

"It was a good movie, and he offered it, and I said no, and he’s the only director that I ever said no to who actually came back and offered me another movie," he said. The 62-year-old actor is now working with Russell on the upcoming film 'Madden', where Cage will portray legendary football coach John Madden.
