NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: MSNBC anchor Nicole Wallace accused GOP presidential candidate JD Vance of "mansplaining" during the CBS News vice presidential debate against Democratic presidential nominee Tim Walz on Tuesday, October 1.

Wallace slammed Vance for his heated exchange with journalist Margaret Brennan over a fact-checking dispute, which led CBS to mute both candidates' microphones during the early moments of the VP debate.

During the vice presidential debate, JD Vance echoed Donald Trump’s previous comments about Haitian migrants in Springfield and reaffirmed his stance on the matter.

However, Brennan interrupted him midway and said, "Just to clarify for our viewers, Springfield, Ohio does have a large number of Haitian migrants who have legal status or temporary protected status."

Vance pushed back against the moderators, claiming he was unfairly fact-checked, and accused the 'Face the Nation' host of breaking debate rules.

He said, "The rules were that you guys weren’t going to fact check, and since you're fact-checking me, I think it's important to say what's actually going on."

Brennan tried to change the topic but Vance continued, "So there’s an application called the CBP One app where you can go on and apply for asylum or apply for parole and be granted legal status at the wave of a Kamala Harris open border wand. That is not a person coming in applying for a green card and waiting for 10 years."

After the incident, Wallace slammed Vance on MSNBC during the debate analysis and said, "I actually think if you're a woman, that might be the the worst moment JD Vance had, because he was going to mansplain right over that mute button. He was, and again, I don't pretend to know how everyone will react to this."

She went on to say, "I think that a lot of women, in positions of authority that should command respect just by virtue of that dynamic, will see themselves and some do that, disrespected them and talk over, you know, I mean, there was a moment like that the Harris-Pence debate."

The debate rules specified that candidates' microphones would stay on by default, but the network reserved the right to mute them if the situation became unmanageable.

Internet divided as Nicole Wallace accuses JD Vance of 'mansplaining' in VP debate

People on the internet stayed divided and had mixed reactions as Nicole Wallace accused JD Vance of "mansplaining" during the CBS News vice presidential debate against Tim Walz.

A user wrote on X, "Nicole Wallace's comments are spot on. Mansplaining is a real thing and it's not just about men, it's about entitlement and disrespect for others' experiences. I'm not sure what J.D. Vance was thinking."

Another added, "I'm legitimately embarrassed for Nicole Wallace here. So the Dems have a big polling problem with men as a whole, and Vance politely pointing out that Brennan was abandoning the rules for her candidate."

A person also stated, "@NicolleDWallace is so insecure, having shifting standards & zero boundaries she doesn't realize what her viewers see." Another mentioned, "When Nicole Wallace is throwing down the 'mansplaining' card, that’s when you know Walz lost the debate."

A user also wrote, "Oh it drives me nuts! He is so creepy and unlikeable!" Another commented, "He always repeatedly says women’s names in interviews and it’s so gross every time."
