CONCORD, NEW HAMPSHIRE: GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley's campaign awaits a "major gift" from one of her largest financial backers, Home Depot co-founder Ken Langone.

However, Langone has stated that he will wait for the results of the New Hampshire primary on January 23, next week, before deciding to continue his support for Haley's campaign, per a report by The Hill.

The success of Haley's campaign in the Granite State is critical for Langone's further funding of her campaign.

What did Langone reveal about Nikki Haley’s campaign on Thursday?

“If she doesn’t get traction in New Hampshire, you don’t throw money down a rat hole,” Langone told Financial Times.

The recent statements made by the billionaire follow the outcome of the Iowa caucuses, where Haley came third.

The former governor of South Carolina is currently polling ahead of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in New Hampshire, but is still trailing behind former President Donald Trump.

Haley's campaign is making efforts to leverage the momentum she has gained and the endorsement of GOP New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu, which she secured last month.

Haley’s campaign is also hopeful about the New Hampshire primary, stating that the Republican primary is a "two-person race."

Langone also stated that he is willing to provide "a nice sum of money" in support of her efforts.

The billionaire retail magnate backed Haley early last month, remarking that former President Donald Trump's time had "come and gone."

Major donors and backers supporting Nikki Haley and Florida Gov Ron DeSantis have been hesitant to increase their financial support as the GOP presidential race progresses, with the 77-year-old former president still leading the field by quite a margin.

“Right now, if I had to bet, I think the two candidates will be Biden and Trump,” Langone shared with the outlet, claiming that he would “probably” vote for Trump over President Biden.

He pointed out that while he feels Trump's main priority "was himself" during his first term, the former president "did some pretty good things."

“My problem is we’re going to need a very competent manager, as well as a president-statesman,” Langone added. ”I am supporting Nikki Haley because I think she comes (as) close to what you could hope for as anybody out there.”

Trump, however, remains the overwhelming favorite among the Republican voter base, despite several civil lawsuits and 91 criminal charges across four cases brought against him.

Internet skewers Nikki Haley as New Hampshire primary approaches

People on X slammed Haley, the former United States ambassador to the United Nations, as all eyes are set on how she’ll perform in the Granite State primary come next week.

One X user remarked, "He'll be able to keep his gift, we all know Trump is dominating this one."

Another user said, "Real steadfast loser."

A third wrote, "The fact that he is even thinking about donating to this warmonger is crazy."

Someone else asked, "Lol so the billionaire is going to send that money to DeSantis instead? Or send it to Trump?"

Another tweeted, "I can see myself voting for any republican, including DeSantis, but Trump. If I cast my vote for Trump, you can shoot me. That will never happen, let me repeat, Never voting for Trump even I’ve been offered money! I f***ing hate him."
