MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN: Amid efforts to showcase unity within the Republican Party, former GOP presidential contender Nikki Haley is set to take the stage at the Republican National Convention this week, sources confirm.
"The nominating convention is a time for Republican unity," Haley asserted. “Joe Biden is not competent to serve a second term, and Kamala Harris would be a disaster for America.” “We need a president who will hold our enemies to account, secure our border, cut our debt, and get our economy back on track. I encourage my delegates to support Donald Trump next week in Milwaukee."
Initially thought not to have been invited, Haley, 52, made headlines by releasing all 97 of her delegates accumulated during the 2024 campaign.
Multiple shots fired at Donald Trump during Pennsylvania rally
Haley's acceptance of the convention invitation was revealed shortly after the recent assassination attempt on former president Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania. The Secret Service agents immediately surrounded Trump, who crouched to the ground after covering his ears as the shots rang out.
The shooter, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, was promptly taken down by the Secret Service sniper. The FBI is currently investigating the horrific incident.
Trump, who sustained an injury to his right ear, is reportedly "fine" and plans to attend the Republican National Convention.
Nikki Haley's role as former UN Ambassador adds weight to convention address
As a former ambassador to the United Nations under Donald Trump, Nikki Haley's upcoming address is anticipated to resonate strongly amidst the party's renewed focus on consolidating support ahead of the upcoming elections.
After finishing as the runner-up in the 2024 GOP presidential campaign, Haley's absence initially hinted at lingering tensions within the Trump camp. She was the final contender against Trump to withdraw from the race, known for her moderate stance that appealed to those seeking an alternative to Trump's leadership, per the New York Post.
Trump, 78, openly criticized Haley for prolonging her candidacy despite lacking a viable path to the nomination. However, just before the recent assassination attempt on former President Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, it emerged that Haley had indeed been invited to speak at the Republican National Convention, although the exact timing of the invitation remains unclear.
Having previously served as US ambassador to the United Nations during Trump's administration, Haley's acceptance of the invitation to deliver remarks at this prominent Republican event was announced following the alarming incident in Butler.
