PORT HURON, MICHIGAN: President Donald Trump attacked Norway at a campaign rally in Michigan on Sunday, October 25, calling the country a “shithouse country” and saying that he did not want people from Norway coming to the United States.

The president renewed his criticism of the Nobel Peace Prize after human rights lawyer Navi Pillay was named this year’s laureate. Trump claimed that he had stopped eight wars and said he had expected to receive the award, while Norway’s government has repeatedly stressed that the Nobel Committee operates independently.

Trump says Norway ‘sucks’ over Nobel Peace Prize snub

Speaking at the rally, Trump repeated his claim that he had stopped eight wars and recalled telling First Lady Melania Trump a week before the Nobel announcement that receiving the prize “will be a great honor.”

The president also complained about Pillay’s selection, referring to her as “a woman that nobody ever heard of.” Trump said that he had wondered whether the committee could award two prizes, asking, “What about me? Do they do two of them?”

Trump then directed his criticism at Norway, saying that “Frankly, Norway sucks. Norway has become a shithouse country, actually.” Trump has previously used similar language to describe other countries, including Haiti, Somalia and Yemen.

Discussing immigration, Trump said that he would welcome people from Denmark but did not “want anybody from Norway” and wanted nothing to do with the country because of the Nobel decision.

The Norwegian government has repeatedly said that it does not determine the Nobel Peace Prize winner. The award is selected by the independent Norwegian Nobel Committee, rather than the country’s government.

Trump renews Nobel Peace Prize complaints on Truth Social

Trump also criticised the outcome in a series of Truth Social posts over the weekend. After Pillay was announced as the winner, he wrote that “I know nothing about this woman, and neither does anyone else!”

The president also claimed he “should have won 8 Nobel Peace Prizes, not just 1,” and described the decision as an “indelible stain on Norway, one that will never be forgotten.”

Trump has repeatedly pointed to his claims of helping end international conflicts as evidence that he deserved the award. However, the Nobel Peace Prize is decided by the independent committee, which selects its laureate according to its own assessment.

Nobel laureate Navi Pillay calls US sanctions against ICC ‘completely unlawful’

Pillay has also criticised the US administration’s sanctions against the International Criminal Court, describing the measures as “completely unlawful” in an interview with The Associated Press.

The sanctions were announced by Secretary of State Marco Rubio last week, hours after Pillay was named the Nobel Peace Prize winner. Rubio said that the United States would “ban transactions” with the ICC, seeking to cut off its resources and restrict its ability to act against the US.

Pillay said heads of state had a responsibility to “respect international law.”

A former United Nations high commissioner for human rights, Pillay chaired a UN commission that concluded in a report published last year that Israel was committing genocide in Gaza. Israel has rejected the allegations and condemned her Nobel selection.
