NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: At the 'No Kings' rally in Times Square, New Yorkers explained why they support mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, saying they want a leader who can stand up to President Donald Trump.

As crowds moved through the busy streets, voters shared their opinions. Some voters told Fox News Digital that Mamdani “is the opposite of what we’ve seen before.” Others said they valued his honesty and transparency about his policies.

The 'No Kings' rally took place on Saturday, October 18, as part of a nationwide movement opposing Trump’s administration.

Weeks after Mamdani won the Democratic primary for mayor, various wealthy interest groups have begun to mobilize against the 33-year-old state assemblyman. Mamdani has vowed to freeze rent hikes for a year, make buses free, and increase taxes on wealthy New Yorkers. Former Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Monday that he will continue his run for New York City mayor after losing to Zohran Mamdani in last month's Democratic primary. (Photo by Spencer Platt/Getty Images)

Voters explained why Mamdani has their support with less than two weeks left until Election Day.

“He represents everything they’re not,” said Edgar, a voter from Rockaway Beach, Queens. He added that democracy is “under attack” and that New York City needs a leader like California Governor Gavin Newsom to stand up to Trump.

“I don’t think he’s afraid of Trump in the least,” said Gail Kelly, a lawyer from Breezy Point, Queens. She said she’s “tired” of former Governor Andrew Cuomo, who lost the Democratic primary in June and is now running as an independent, and “not that thrilled with Curtis Sliwa,” the Republican candidate.

Brad, a supporter from Gowanus, Brooklyn, described both Trump and Cuomo as “fascists.”

According to the latest Fox News poll, 49 percent of voters support Mamdani, compared with 28 percent for Cuomo and 13 percent for Sliwa. Mamdani leads registered New York City voters by 21 points. The election is set for November 4, after Mayor Eric Adams suspended his re-election campaign last month.

A post from The Post Millennial showed Mamdani leading Cuomo 35 to 31 percent, and his rise became a major talking point at the rally.

Voters told Fox News Digital they plan to back Mamdani as millions of Americans took to the streets Saturday to protest Trump’s second-term agenda.

Zohran Mamdani aims to balance cooperation with Donald Trump and city interests

During a two-hour televised debate on Thursday, October 16, Zohran Mamdani and Cuomo discussed topics from Israel to their political records and how they’d handle Trump. Mamdani said he would cooperate with Trump on issues where their goals align to benefit New Yorkers.

Even before the debate, a campaign ad featuring Mamdani holding a rose aired during the premiere of ABC’s The Golden Bachelor on October 1. In it, Mamdani says, “You deserve better. You deserve to raise your family here, to be safe, to travel where you need to, free of cost and worry. You deserve someone who works as hard as you do, who thinks about you every second of the day. That’s the kind of mayor I promise to be.”

He ends the ad holding up a rose and asking, “New York, will you accept this rose?”
