Obamas team up with Steph Curry to launch child-friendly sports drink, also works as tequila mixer
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Barack and Michelle Obama have gotten into the sports drink business with their NBA superstar pal Steph Curry and his wife, Ayesha Curry. Though they all teamed up for PLEZi Hydration earlier, which was launched in 2025, more details regarding their motivation behind it have come out now.
Recently, Steph and his wife appeared on the former first lady’s 'IMO' podcast, where Michelle said, as per RadarOnline, “We've gotten to know one another on so many different levels. Barack loves you to death, loves you both, but is excited because we're partners.”
Michelle Obama thanks Steph and Ayesha Curry for partnering with them
“Our wonderful new venture PLEZi, PLEZi, Nutrition, and Steph and Ayesha, you guys are the key behind the formulation of our new hydration drink. So glad to be working with you on that,” she told the pair.
The Golden State Warriors legend then revealed during the episode that it was his children’s reaction to the drink that led him to become a partner with the Obamas.
His wife then added, “Our kids really gravitated towards all of the samples when we were doing the sampling. And we looked at each other, and they were like, no, they really like this.”
Ayesha Curry hails sports drink for being a good cocktail mixer
Ayesha further revealed that the drink safe for children, is also a great cocktail "mixer”. “When you have something that can be for the kids, it can help you on the court. And then if you mix it with a little tequila, it's nice as well. You're winning,” the cookbook author said.
Steph also praised the former first couple on the podcast for putting so “much time and energy” into the drink, which apparently does not contain added sugar and has reduced levels of sodium.
“I think, I mean, we're all biased, but I think we accomplished that for sure,” the 38-year-old basketball point guard added.
Michelle Obama's PLEZi Nutrition focusing on setting higher standards in food and drink market in 2023
This came a few years later, in 2023, Michelle launched PLEZi Nutrition — a Public Benefit Company that focuses on setting “higher standards for how we make and market food and drinks along the way.”
At the time, she reportedly said, “I’ve learned that on this issue, if you want to change the game, you can’t just work from the outside. You’ve got to get inside. You’ve got to find ways to change the food and beverage industry itself.”
“So today, I’m proud to announce the national launch of a company designed not just to provide better products, but to jumpstart what I hope will be a race to the top that will transform the entire food industry,” the mother-of-two added.
