‘Often takes weeks to rig’: Trump points to what US’ ‘corrupt’ system lacks compared with Brazil
WASHINGTON, DC: Only weeks before the November midterm elections, President Donald Trump has once again revived his election rigging claim, asking why American states take weeks to release election results when countries can do so within hours.
Trump, time and again, has questioned election integrity in the US, alleging instances of rigging in election results. Earlier, he claimed the 2020 presidential election was stolen from him with the help of foreign interference.
Trump holds Brazil election as model as he questions US poll integrity
In a late-night Truth Social rant on Sunday, Oct 4, President Donald Trump lashed out at the American polling system as he compared the US election process with that of Brazil’s.
President Trump questioned why Brazil could release election data within hours of voting while numerous US states take weeks to publish results despite having smaller populations.
Trump then sarcastically alleged that places such as Detroit, Philadelphia and California take weeks to release election results, saying the delay gives them time to “rig,” or calculate, the results.
“125 Million People voted today in the first round of Brazil’s Presidential Election. The results came out shortly after the vote closed, on the SAME DAY! In Detroit, Philadelphia, California, and numerous other US Cities and States, the results, with much smaller numbers, will often take weeks to Rig, I mean, calculate,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post.
“Voting in America is corrupt,” Trump declared before concluding his post.

Notably, Trump’s post mistakenly referred to the election as the “first round of India’s Presidential Election,” although he was referring to Brazil’s presidential election. About 124.5 million Brazilians cast ballots in the first round on Oct. 4.
Trump is repeatedly claiming election rigging in US polls
President Trump has repeatedly alleged widespread manipulation in US elections
Trump’s long-standing claims of election fraud also include the 2020 presidential election, which Trump has claimed was heavily rigged with the help of China and Russia to keep him out of power.
In a July 16 Primetime address, Trump claimed that the CIA possessed intelligence about the alleged intrusion but withheld it from him during his first term.
However, on July 21, Trump downplayed China’s role in the fraud, saying “it is not one-sided street,” signaling domestic involvement.
Trump accused election manipulation in primary
In June, Trump made several claims about the primary elections in California, alleging that the Democrats were trying to “steal” the California primaries from two Republicans, LA Mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt and Gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton.
Hilton did advance in the gubernatorial race and will take on Democrat Xavier Beccara in November.
Trump attacked “very late and massive numbers of” mail-in ballots, reiterating his long-time opposition to voting by mail.
Notably, Trump has recently urged GOP voters to use mail-in ballots to ensure higher voter turnout in Republicans’ favour.
Federal agencies and court rulings have repeatedly found no evidence supporting Trump's ongoing claims of widespread election fraud.
