Oliver Tree discussed unusual part of his will weeks before death in helicopter crash
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Oliver Tree had talked about death and his will in an eerie interview just weeks before his death.
The musician and record producer died, along with five others, when his helicopter collided with another in Recreio dos Bandeirantes, in the Southwest Zone of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Sunday, June 14, morning.
Oliver Tree said his family won't get a penny after his death
During an April episode of ‘The Zach Sang Show’ podcast, Tree had reportedly said, “I don't believe that any of the wealth or the things that get made from it is mine. So when I die — I've set it up — my will is set up that when I pass, my family, no one's going to get a penny.”
The ‘Miss You’ singer further noted, “If I have a wife or kids or anything, [they're] not getting a f***ing penny,” before adding, “I'll get my kids through college. That's the agreement. But there's not going to be a silver spoon.”
“They're taken care of because my dad worked on some stuff in the 2000s. The idea is, when I die, all the money is going to go back to artists,” he had asserted on the April 24 episode.
Oliver Tree believed 'people appreciate you when you're not there anymore'
Tree was only 32 when he died. Other victims of the Sunday tragedy were Lucas Brito Chaves, Lucas Vignale, Argentinian YouTuber Gaspar Prim (also known as Gaspi), and pilots Alexandre Souza and Charles Marsillac.
During the April podcast interview, the rapper told the host Zach Sang, “I've set up a foundation. It's called Dr. Oliver Tree's Art Grants for Baby Geniuses. When I die, my art will continue to have residuals and probably be worth more than it is now.”
Tree even mentioned the harsh truth of life as he stated, “People will finally appreciate my stupid f***ing videos or my stupid f***ng songs. That's when people appreciate you, when you're not there anymore.”
“I have basically a committee that I've set up when I pass — and I plan to do it while I'm alive — where basically everyone will vote on who the money goes to each year,” he explained.
Oliver Tree's ex Melanie Martinez calls herself 'an absolute wreck' after his death
After Tree’s death, his former girlfriend, singer Melanie Martinez, paid tribute on social media.
On her Instagram Story, the 31-year-old wrote, “Been an absolute wreck today. It’s really hard to understand how someone who you once shared such a specific and formative time of your life with can all of a sudden be gone.”
Martinez called Tree “a true artist in every way,” as she added, “Rest in peace Oliver. I know you’re making the angels giggle. I’ll be here wondering what stunt and creative project you’re scheming up in heaven. All my love.”
