WASHINGTON, DC: Rep Ilhan Omar, on Saturday, April 18, accused Congress of failing the Constitution and “enabling Trump's war with Iran” in a fiery weekend post, but the message quickly backfired into a comment-section storm.

Instead of debating War Powers or US policy, MAGA supporters swarmed her replies with blistering reminders of her recent wealth-disclosure controversy, mocking how assets once reported in the millions were later revised to under six figures.

Ilhan Omar claims 'Congress enabled Iran war'

Omar posted a clip from an earlier interview with ABC News that aired on Thursday and used the moment to renew criticism of Congress over President Donald Trump and the Iran conflict.

“Congress is failing its constitutional duty and enabling Trump’s war with Iran, putting American troops and innocent lives at risk. Republicans must find the courage to stand up to Trump and end this war,” she wrote in the caption.

In the attached interview, Omar argued that lawmakers, not just the executive branch, must decide issues of war and peace.

“It is important for members of Congress to assert their constitutional right in being the body that declares war,” she said, adding that service members and their families deserve to know where elected officials stand before troops are placed in danger.

She then accused Congress of becoming submissive to the White House.

“We do not have a president who rules over Congress,” Omar said. “The legislative branch is deciding that they're only going to do what the president wants them to do and not act as an independent branch.”

MAGA supporters blast Ilhan Omar

Within minutes of her post, MAGA supporters in the comment section blasted Omar as they asked her to focus less on Iran and more on her personal finances.

One user fired back, writing, “What is it with all of you obviously compromised political class types coming out and grandstanding mid-controversy?”

Another mocked the dramatic revision in her disclosures, claiming, “So you went from $30 million to $90K, and it's just an accounting error? When will Democrats find the courage to stand up to you and end this fraud.”

A third wrote: “Has Ilhan Omar ever done anything helpful to a single human being in America? Is there a reason we keep electing this person to do nothing?”

Another demanded consequences, posting “You should be expelled from Congress immediately and be indicted on criminal charges!!! Fraud.”

One commenter took aim at stewardship of public office, writing, “What about your duty to be a good steward of taxpayer funds? Clean up your own backyard.”

Another delivered a sarcastic, more polished swipe, writing, “Representative Omar, your fervent appeal to Congress’s constitutional duty stirs the heart almost as profoundly as your recent accounting epiphany, which gracefully transmuted a multimillion-dollar asset portfolio into a humble $18,000–$95,000 overnight.”

Ilhan Omar's wealth revision row

The controversy began after Omar’s annual financial disclosure appeared to show a dramatic rise in household wealth.

One filing reportedly listed assets tied to Omar and husband Tim Mynett at between $6 million and $30 million, a huge jump from previous disclosures.

Much of the valuation was linked to Mynett’s business interests, including a California winery and a venture capital firm.

The numbers immediately triggered political backlash, especially because Omar has long positioned herself as a progressive critic of concentrated wealth and corporate influence.

After scrutiny mounted, an amended filing reportedly revised the couple’s assets to between $18,004 and $95,000.

Her team said the earlier figures were caused by valuation errors and maintained Omar was never a millionaire.
