Phoenix, Arizona: As the preliminary hearing for Tyler Robinson got underway on Monday, July 6, two very different public responses emerged from people closest to late conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

While Kirk's family urged the public to respect their privacy as the legal process unfolds, political commentator Candace Owens posted a message promising to continue what she described as Kirk's fight.

Charlie Kirk's family asks for privacy as hearing begins

Before testimony began, Charlie Kirk's widow, Erika Kirk, released a statement on behalf of the family, describing the emotional burden of returning to court following his death.

"Every court proceeding serves as a painful reminder of his death and the loss that has irrevocably impacted our lives and the lives of his children," she said.

Erika Kirk confirmed that she and Charlie Kirk's parents would attend the proceedings but would not be making additional public statements while the case remains before the court.

"Out of respect for the judicial process, we will not be commenting further at this time. We ask for continued privacy."

The family's statement made clear that their focus remains on allowing the judicial process to move forward while they continue grieving in private.

Candace Owens posts defiant message before court proceedings

Candace Owens, a longtime political ally of Charlie Kirk, took a very different approach. Instead of calling for privacy, she framed the hearing as part of a broader ideological battle.

Posting on X, Owens wrote, "One more fight, Charlie. I don't fear these demons. We will win."

The post quickly drew attention online, with many noting the contrast between Owens' public show of defiance and the Kirk family's restrained response.

Prosecutors outline allegations against Tyler Robinson

Tyler Robinson continues to face multiple charges, including first-degree murder. According to court filings, prosecutors allege the attack was premeditated.

Investigators have pointed to several pieces of evidence they say support the case, including an alleged handwritten note, text messages and the recovery of a Mauser 98 bolt-action rifle.

Robinson has not entered a guilty plea, and the allegations remain unproven as the legal process continues.

Legal experts noted that the burden of proof at a preliminary hearing is significantly lower than it would be during a criminal trial.

Former prosecutor Mark Kouris explained that prosecutors are not required to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt at this stage.

Instead, they only need to establish probable cause that a crime was committed and that Robinson should stand trial.

Judge Graf will ultimately determine whether the evidence presented over the course of the hearing is sufficient for the case to proceed to a full jury trial, where prosecutors would face the much higher burden of proving the allegations beyond a reasonable doubt.

Until then, the charges against Robinson remain allegations, and the court has not reached any conclusion regarding his guilt or innocence.
