Ossoff explains Natalie Harp remark as he accuses Trump of hiding into ‘security blanket’ bubble
WASHINGTON, DC: Senator Jon Ossoff isn’t buying into speculation about a 2028 presidential run. In a recent interview, he brushed off the idea, calling it “fantasy football.” He also explained why he mentioned White House aide Natalie Harp by name in a recent speech.
Ossoff said Trump’s surrounded by advisers who serve as a “security blanket,” while service members end up bearing the real costs of his decisions in the Middle East.
Ossoff is in the thick of his re-election campaign in Georgia, facing Republican Rep Mike Collins. It’s shaping up to be one of the hottest Senate races of 2026, and every word counts.
Jon Ossoff explains Natalie Harp ‘security blanket’ remark
When asked why he singled out Harp, a White House aide known for being close to Trump, in his recent comments on the Senate floor, Ossoff said he wanted to show how the president has pulled back from the tough demands of leading during wartime.
🚨OMG: Jon Ossoff was just asked why he mentioned Natalie Harp and his answer was PERFECT:

Instead, he said, Trump has surrounded himself with people who only tell him what he wants to hear.
"Trump retreats into this bubble of West Wing aides who are his security blanket to make him feel good about himself," Ossoff said.
He said Trump uses that inner circle to be reassured that he is doing a great job while he designs his new ballroom, adorns the Oval Office in gold and selects interior decorations for what Ossoff called "this new luxury flying palace he received from a foreign prince."
Ossoff argued that the contrast with what the president should actually be doing during a period of active military deployment could not be more stark.
“Every single minute of every single day, what the president of the United States should be doing is bearing his most solemn burden of care for the sailors and Marines and aviators and all service members deployed on his orders, on the basis of his lies, to this disaster in the Middle East.”
“And just like the West Wing is full of sycophants who tell him what he wants to hear and enable him, so is the United States Congress.”
“Republicans in the House and Senate who still lack the spine to tell this president what he doesn't want to hear.”
Jon Ossoff dismisses 2028 presidential run speculation
When the interviewer brought up the idea of a 2028 presidential ticket with Sen Mark Kelly, after Kelly had joked about a possible “Ossoff-Kelly” pairing by asking, “Hey, why’d you put it in that order?” Ossoff didn’t waver.
“Let me reiterate. I have zero interest in running for president in 2028, and frankly, zero interest in the 2028 fantasy football right now.” “I don't know that we have a free and fair election in 2028, unless we restore checks and balances in these 2026 midterm elections.”

He shot down the speculation and made it clear that Democrats need to pour all their energy into the 2026 midterms first. In his eyes, those elections set the stage for anything the party hopes to do down the line.
"This needs to be all of our highest priority and our focus. Get involved. Pitch in money. Sign up to knock doors. Sign up to make phone calls." He noted that Kelly would be in Georgia the following day to campaign alongside him.
