Outrage as Alabama Secretary Wes Allen claims Joe Biden’s policies give illegal immigrants ‘mechanism’ to register to vote

ALABAMA, UNITED STATES: Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen is raising the alarm about federal policies enacted by President Joe Biden that he claims provide illegal immigrants and non-citizens a "mechanism" to voter registration.

In an exclusive interview, Allen took aim at Executive Order 14019, issued in 2021, accusing the Biden administration of "weaponizing" the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA) of 1993.

State mandates and voter registration by Biden administration 

Allen's concern arose from a troubling incident where a voter registration form was mailed to a deceased individual. This discovery led Allen to investigate further, revealing that state agencies, including Medicaid and welfare offices, are mandated to distribute voter registration forms to anyone they interact with—potentially including illegal immigrants and non-citizens.

Allen highlighted the lack of mechanisms to ensure these forms are only sent to U.S. citizens. "It's troubling that non-citizens, whether legal or illegal immigrants, are receiving those voter registration forms," he said. Allen is calling for Congress to reform the NVRA, advocating for state-level control over voter registration processes.

"Only American citizens should be allowed to vote in our elections. And I strongly believe that the people of Alabama believe that only American citizens should be allowed to vote in our elections. And that's something that I'm not going to back away from," Allen stated, per Fox.

 "Something that we cannot back away from. And it's something that we must remain strong in and continue to advocate for these reforms. Again, for the National Voter Registration Act of 1993, sensible reforms. And, and that's why we've got to put President Trump back in the White House. That's why we've got to have strong GOP majorities in the United States Senate and strong GOP majorities in the United States House of Representatives to make sure that we can reform the NVRA to put some protections in there to verify citizenship. It is imperative, moving forward, that we do that." 

Firm opposition to non-citizen voting

The White House defends Executive Order 14019 as a measure to protect "the right to vote for all Americans who are legally entitled to participate in elections," including Black voters or other voters of color. To address these concerns, Allen supports the Citizen Ballot Protection Act and the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, both seeking to enforce proof of citizenship for voter registration and remove non-citizens from voter rolls.

"It's a top priority of other secretaries of state of like mind, Republican secretaries of state, that we are watching this very, very closely and trying to bring to light what's going on and the need to reform the National Voter Registration Act of 1993," Allen continued. 

Allen also criticized a new executive order by President Biden that shields 500,000 illegal immigrants from deportation, which he and other Republicans argue serves as an election-year ploy to win over Hispanic and Latino voters by allowing illegal immigrants to remain in the country indefinitely under "parole in place" while receiving taxpayer-funded benefits.

A White House spokesperson added, "It is illegal for noncitizens to vote in federal elections. Receiving protection from deportation does not give an individual the right to vote." Despite federal challenges, Allen praised Alabama's robust election security measures, such as the use of paper ballots and stringent voter ID laws. "We feel those are good, strong statutes to make sure that our elections are strong, safe, secure, transparent, and accountable in the state of Alabama," Allen stated.

Internet users call for citizenship requirements amid voting concerns

A user tweeted, "With non-citizen voting permitted in some local jurisdictions nationwide, Allen stressed that Alabama strictly prohibits such practices and called for quicker voter roll maintenance to remove those who move out of state."

Another added, "Corruption of our democracy at the highest level."

"That would explain the boost in the polls. We should pass a law must be a Citizen a minimum of Ten years to vote or Hold office," read a tweet. 

"Mechanism to steal our country permanently is more like it!" stated a user.
