PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: President-elect Donald Trump selected South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem to join his Cabinet as the head of Homeland Security, as per a report by CNN.

Noem, who admitted to shooting her puppy, will implement Trump's promises to clean up the mess at the southern border and deport millions of illegal migrants, per the outlet.

Kristin Noem joins Stephen Miller, who was appointed as deputy chief of staff, and Tom Homan, who will serve as "border czar". The Department of Homeland Security has a $60 billion budget, according to Daily Mail.

The president-elect spent much of Monday, November 11, attempting to secure key parts of his cabinet ahead of his January 2025 inauguration.

He offered the role of US ambassador to the United Nations to Elise Stefanik, according to the outlet. Trump also selected former New York Rep Lee Zeldin as his next Environmental Protection Agency administrator.

An insider revealed to the New York Post in April 2024 that Noem "had a shot" at being named Donald Trump’s presidential running mate before she revealed about killing her puppy.

The insider said, "She was already unlikely to be picked as VP but had a shot. After this, it’s just impossible."

The source added, "Trump isn’t a dog person necessarily but I think he understands that you can’t choose a puppy killer as your pick, for blatantly obvious reasons."

Controversies surrounding South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem

Kristi Noem was dubbed a rising star in the GOP until a scandal earlier in 2024 where she revealed in her memoir, ‘No Going Back: The Truth on What's Wrong With Politics and How We Move America Forward', that she had shot her puppy, a 14-month-old named Cricket.

She wrote that she took Cricket on a hunting trip with older dogs in hopes of calming down the wild puppy but Cricket chased the pheasants while "having the time of her life".

She further wrote that on the way home from the hunting trip when she stopped to talk to a family, Cricket got out of her truck, attacked, and killed some of the family’s chicken. It also bit the governor.

She apologized profusely, gave the family a check for the killed chickens, and helped them dispose of the remains.

She wrote, "I hated that dog. At that moment I realized I had to put her down."

Moreover, she added that her family also owned a "nasty and mean" male goat that smelled bad and liked to chase her children, so she decided to go ahead and kill the goat, too.

Apart from this, Daily Mail also reported on rumors that Noem was having an affair with Trump advisor Corey Lewandowski, despite both being married, in 2019, if not before. The outlet confirmed that neither denied the affair.

Internet reacts as Donald Trump picks Kristi Noem as Homeland Security secretary

Several internet users expressed disappointment over Kristi Noem being chosen by Donald Trump to join his Cabinet as the secretary of the Department of Homeland Security.

A user wrote on X, "She got the nod over Tulsi Gabbard. I was wrong for voting Trump."

Another one added, "The dog murderer? That's interesting.."

A person stated, "Dude, this lady will blast a puppy in the face. Imagine what she'll do to illegals?" whereas one mentioned, "So we killing pets now? RIP Cricket RIP Peanut."

A user wrote, "I can't even take this seriously. WTF does she know about Homeland security?"

Another commented, "Hopefully she doesn’t have more skeletons in her closet that rise to the level of murdering her own pet."
