Outrage as far-left and Democrats politicize Texas flood, push anti-Trump narratives: 'Lack of humanity'

KERRVILLE, TEXAS: As heartbreak grips the nation after the devastation caused by the catastrophic Texas flood, several far-left activists and Democrat figures have reacted not with sympathy, but by seizing the moment to push political hostility and spread misleading narratives.
Described by officials as a “100-year catastrophe,” the flash flooding that began early on the morning of the Fourth of July drowned much of Texas, destroyed an uncountable number of houses, and claimed the lives of more than 104 people.
Among the dead are at least 27 young girls from Camp Mystic, an all-girls Christian summer camp tucked along the South Fork of the Guadalupe River, where flood risk was among the highest in the state.

Far-left and Democratic figures face heat for politicizing Texas flood horror
As search-and-rescue teams waded into swollen rivers to look for missing people, several liberal figures rushed to social media to politicize the disastrous Texas flooding.
Many liberals blamed President Donald Trump and the Republican Party for the flooding, alleging that their cuts to the federal government, namely staffing reductions at the National Weather Service (NWS), hampered the state’s disaster preparedness and contributed to the destruction and loss of life.

One Democrat even used the deaths of children at Camp Mystic to launch a racially charged rant against white Christians.
"But Camp Mystic is a whites-only girls' Christian camp. They don't even have a token Asian, they don't have a token Black person, it is an all-white, white-only conservative Christian camp," Sade Perkins, a former Democrat appointee to Houston’s Food Insecurity Board, said in her viral TikTok video.
Let’s make this ratchet racist damsons . Meet Sade Perkins, Freedmen's Town Farmers Market mgr, said “little white girls” at Camp Mystic deserved the TX floods. Vile racism! Married to Rev. Colin Bossen, she must face consequences. pic.twitter.com/fSAd1d8b8e

She then went on to blame Trump, Texas Governor Greg Abbott, and Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick for the floods, describing them as "totally preventable."
Perkins’ comments sparked fierce backlash on social media, leading the Houston Mayor's office to fire her. Pediatrician Christina B Propst similarly spewed hate, saying the victims got “what they voted for” and wishing safety only for “non-MAGA voters and pets.”

I just sent this to your office ( bluefishmemorial@bluefishmd.com ) - your organization's doctor’s decision to exploit natural disaster involving deceased and missing children for political purposes is appalling. Dr. Christina Propst, a pediatrician at Blue Fish… pic.twitter.com/xrtO3b4vpT
Just like Perkins, Propst’s employer, Blue Fish Pediatrics, also condemned her statement and announced that she was no longer employed.
Meanwhile, Senator Chris Murphy struck a completely different tone, blaming Trump for the Texas floods. "Accurate weather forecasting helps avoid fatal disasters. There are consequences to Trump’s brainless attacks on public workers, like meteorologists," he posted on X, in response to reports that a specific meteorologist position in the area was unfilled at the time of the flood.

In a now-deleted post, MeidasTouch.com editor-in-chief Ron Filipkowski wrote, "The people in Texas voted for government services controlled by Donald Trump and Greg Abbott. That is exactly what they are getting."
The post sparked major outrage on social media, with former Bernie Sanders campaign co-chair Nina Turner calling it “shameful.”

The politicizing of the Texas floods by left-wing figures didn’t end there, as the official account for "The Democrats" joined the trend on July 6 by sharing a screenshot of a headline that read, "As Floods Hit, Key Roles Were Vacant at Weather Service Offices in Texas."
"Reminder: The staffing shortages at the National Weather Service’s San Angelo and San Antonio offices doubled under the Trump administration. These jobs are meant to coordinate disaster response and save lives,” the account commented.

As other social media users criticized the post, meteorologist Chris Martz responded by sharing an Associated Press article that quoted National Weather Service meteorologist Jason Runyen, who stated that his office had extra staff on duty during the storm.
White House fires back at critics blaming Donald Trump for Texas flood response
Following far-left figures’ vicious attacks, White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson condemned those blaming Donald Trump’s budget cuts for the disastrous Texas flood.
"It’s shameful and disgusting that in the wake of tragedy, the left’s first instinct is to lie and politicize a disaster to target their political opponents," she told Fox News Digital.

"False claims about the NWS have been repeatedly debunked by meteorologists, experts, and other public reporting. The NWS did their job, even issuing a flood watch more than 12 hours in advance.”
“The Trump Administration is grateful to the first responders who sprang into action to save hundreds of lives during this catastrophe, and will continue to help the great state of Texas in their recovery efforts,” she continued.

At the July 7 press briefing, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt added that any media outlets or Democrats blaming Trump for the flooding "should feel ashamed of themselves."
Even Nina Turner criticized the liberal response, writing, "It takes a serious lack of humanity to see children die in a natural disaster and respond with something along the lines of ‘that’s what they voted for.’”

In another post, she provided some fact-checking of her own regarding Trump’s budget cuts, stating, "The GOP’s budget cuts to NOAA are set to take effect at the start of fiscal year 2026, which begins on October 1, 2025. Anyone making the deaths of the children in Texas about partisan politics is morally bankrupt. Please reflect."

"Multiple things can be true at the same time: 1. The funding cuts are bad. 2. The tragedy in Texas was a tragedy. Not being able to hold those two beliefs and jumping to ‘they got what they voted for’ will absolutely not move us towards any resolution,” she continued.
CBS Austin meteorologist Avery Tomasco also denounced liberal allegations, insisting that the National Weather Service was fully functional at the time of the flooding.
All I'll say is this. The National Weather Service issued a flood watch for Kerr County more than 12 hours ahead of the catastrophic flood. A flash flood warning was issued for Hunt & Ingram 3 HOURS before the Guadalupe started to climb.
