TRENTON, NEW JERSEY: Representative Rob Menendez Jr (D-NJ) and his embattled politician father Bob Menendez have been blasted online after Rob's reported win against Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla in the Democratic primary.

Rob’s father, his stepmother Nadine, and three businessmen were pressed with charges in 2023 after it was alleged that Bob took a bribe in the form of gold bars, cash, and other luxurious items as well as a fancy car while agreeing to use his power and position to help the associates in their business pursuits, reports the Associated Press.

Menendez and his wife are accused of taking bribes of gold bars, a luxury car and cash in exchange for using Menendez's position to help the government of Egypt and other corrupt acts according to an indictment from SDNY. The indictment is the second in eight years against Menendez. The indictment also includes charges for Wael Hana, Jose Uribe, and Fred Daibes. (Photo by Spencer Platt/Getty Images)

Rob Menendez Jr mocks Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla

Bob, who has been the US Senator for New Jersey since 2006, is currently facing trial and if found guilty, he can end up behind bars for decades. But despite all, Rob bagged the Democratic nomination for a second House term on June 4. Now he is expected to defeat Republican Anthony Valdes in November, The New York Post reports.

In December last year, he mocked Bhalla by reportedly saying, “It seems the only reason Ravi has entered the race after endorsing me in 2022 and publicly applauding our work this year is because a week after losing control of the city council, he sees no political future for himself in Hoboken.”

Rob Menendez Jr thanks his supporters

After defeating Bhalla, Rob tweeted, “From the bottom of my heart, to the voters of the 8th District: thank you. We always said we would do this together and we did. Tonight was a great success, but the work continues on tomorrow. And we will continue to fight for and deliver for all the residents of our incredible district.”

In another post, he added, “This has been a wild ride, but great to end it in #Hoboken with such a tremendous outpouring of support. Thank you to all of my friends and supporters in #MileSquare.”

Rob Menendez Jr called a ‘nepo’ kid

Rob was called out online as a critic said, “What is your opinion about your gold-bar Daddy threatening Hoboken Mayor Bhalla into endorsing a nepo baby like you two years ago, or else #Hoboken will suffer? #nepotism #corruption.”

Another critic wrote, “Scumbag filth, just like your father.”

The third one commented, “You're an utter nothing - the kind of dem I vote for ONLY to stop some awful Republican from getting elected - and to be honest, I don't see myself doing that w/you.”

The fourth one stated, “Do you denounce your father's corruption, or are you the sequel?”

“New Jersey Rep Rob Menendez, son of indicted senator that had gold bars in his house wins Democratic primary Rigged,” a tweet read.

Another tweet added, “Can’t wait for the pundits to say Rob Menendez’ primary win shows Trump’s conviction has no impact on voters.”
