JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY: Incumbent Rep Rob Menendez (D-NJ), appears to have taken measures to downplay his connection to his father, the embattled Sen "Gold Bar Bob" Menendez, who is currently facing federal bribery charges.

According to the New York Post, in his latest congressional campaign signs, the Jersey City lawyer has prominently enlarged his first name while using a significantly smaller font for his last name.

Notably, the last "E" in his surname is designed to resemble the wavy, red-striped "E" in President Joe Biden's 2024 campaign logo.

What prompted Congressman Rob Menendez to hide his connection to father Sen Bob Menendez?

Menendez's son wasn't left with many options, according to Democratic consultant Hank Sheinkopf.

“He knows he has a problem, because of his father’s corruption trial,” Sheinkopf told the aforementioned outlet. “He’s banking on his personal relationship with voters, which he thinks is on a first-name basis.”

In anticipation of the upcoming Democratic primaries on June 4, campaign volunteers supporting the 38-year-old Democratic lawmaker, have adorned utility poles across his district with political posters that are somewhat challenging to decipher.

The congressman presides over New Jersey’s Eighth Congressional District, encompassing a significant portion of Hudson County and parts of Newark and Elizabeth.

Rep Menendez assumed office in early 2023, employing signs featuring his first and last names in equally sized fonts during his campaign.

The trial of Sen Bob Menendez (D-NJ) commenced last week in Manhattan federal court.

During the trial, jurors were presented with numerous photographs taken inside the residence of the Garden State Democrat in Englewood Cliffs during a raid conducted by the FBI in June 2022.

The photographs exhibited in court depict gold bars, bundles of cash inside various bags, and a stack of money concealed inside a well-worn brown Timberland work boot.

Sen Menendez and his wife, Nadine, are accused of multiple corruption and bribery offenses for allegedly accepting gold bars, cash, a Mercedes convertible, and other luxurious gifts.

According to prosecutors, the 70-year-old Democratic Senator purportedly utilized his position of influence, including his role as the head of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, to provide favors to the governments of Egypt and Qatar, as well as three prominent businessmen from New Jersey, in exchange for the aforementioned gifts.

Following the new charges, Sen Menendez resigned from the Foreign Relations Committee, having previously evaded a corruption conviction after a mistrial in 2017.

This year, in March, the senior Menendez announced that he would not seek re-election.

The most recent poll shows that Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla is leading Rep Rob Menendez by five points.

In 2022, Rep Menendez won by a large margin over Republican nominee Marcos Arroyo, securing almost 74 percent of the vote.

Internet blasts Congressman Rob Menendez for concealing his family surname

People online slammed the Jersey City lawmaker for trying to minimize the damage done to his congressional campaign by his father, embattled Sen Bob Menendez, who's currently facing federal bribery charges.

One person remarked, "I’m sure he will win and he is probably just as corrupt as his dad. You know that Apple doesn’t fall far."

Another person said, "No more corrupt nepo babies plz."

Another person wrote, "He's also using Biden's name on the posters to appeal to left leaning voters. Biden doesn't even likely know who he is, or care what his campaign does, as he puts out Trump's 47 fires and ramps up his own campaign. Also love the 'first world problems' tag by the mods. Yes Democracy is a first world problem. Thanks captain obvious."

One person claimed, "I’m shocked he’s only 5 points behind."

Another person argued, "I know that Rob and his people read this sub. Rob: only way you’re going to save your career and have a chance at winning is to throw your dad under the bus. you have to condemn him and distance yourself from him. They save the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree so if you don’t do this now will local voters ever be able to trust you? I think we need Latino leadership in Congress that isn’t right wing Miami trash. But I can’t vote for someone associated with the worst Cuba’s old and new politics has to offer."

Finally, this person commented, "Bruh just vote republican."
