Trump’s Lake Ontario renaming plan draws Natalie Harp dig from Democratic Rep Debbie Dingell
WASHINGTON, DC: Hours after President Donald Trump announced that his administration is considering renaming Lake Ontario to Lake America, Michigan Rep Debbie Dingell (D) took a sharp dig at him, suggesting that he can name the lake after Natalie Harp.
Amid the intensifying trade war between the US and Canada, President Trump is now considering renaming Lake Ontario to Lake America, as Washington expects no business with Ottawa.

Trump’s two major problems, Controversy surrounding the president’s closeness with his aide Natalie Harp and the trade war with Canada, have now crossed paths after a Democratic senator took a Natalie swipe at him over his dispute with Ottawa.
“Let’s just call it Lake Natalie, so we know you’ll start protecting our Great Lakes,” Dingell said in an X post after Trump said he was “giving serious consideration” to changing the name of Lake Ontario to Lake America.

Trump’s relationship with his aide Natalie Harp came under increased scrutiny after Senator Jon Ossoff (D-GA) invoked her name in an address to supporters at a rally earlier this month.
“See, he doesn’t want to do the job,” Ossoff said at the time. “He wants to build his ballroom and travel with Natalie to their apparently defenseless flying palace gifted by the Emir of Qatar.”
Trump wants to name Lake Ontario Lake America
President Trump said Tuesday, August 25, his administration is considering changing the name of Lake Ontario to Lake America, indicating that no business is going to take place with Ottawa amid the trade war with Canada.
“The United States is giving serious consideration to changing the name of Lake Ontario to Lake America in that we don’t expect to doing much business with Ontario any longer,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.
The announcement comes after Ontario Premier Doug Ford responded to Trump’s attack on social media, calling the president a “loser” and telling him, “Bring it on, buddy.”
Trump had attacked Ford, calling him a 'flunky' of Prime Minister Mark Carney and invoking his late brother Rob Ford.
It would not be the first time the president has sought to rename a body of water bordering the US and another country. Last year, Trump signed an executive ordering renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.
The business negotiations between the two parties turned into a full-blown trade war over the weekend after Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney removed negotiators from trade talks with the US, accusing the US of last-minute demands.
