Trump praises Haley Stevens, says Black and Jewish voters supporting Abdul El-Sayed are 'crazy'
WASHINGTON, DC: At a Halloween event at Mar-a-Lago, President Donald Trump went out of his way to compliment Democratic Rep Haley Stevens. He said Stevens was “in there fighting" and insisted she should get recognition for standing up to Abdul El-Sayed, her fellow Democrat and Michigan Senate candidate.
Trump didn’t hold back on El-Sayed. He slammed him with accusations of hatred toward Black and Jewish communities and declared that someone like El-Sayed should never serve in the Senate. According to Trump, Stevens tried to find common ground with El-Sayed at first but eventually decided she couldn't support him. The comments landed right in the middle of mounting tension among Michigan Democrats as the Senate race heats up.

Trump says Haley Stevens deserves credit in fight with Abdul El-Sayed
During the exchange with reporters, Trump was asked about the divide between Stevens and El-Sayed. He said the two were “really fighting” and claimed that El-Sayed lacked support.

"Well, [Haley Stevens and Abdul] are really fighting. Nobody wants Abdul, and Stevens is in there fighting. She's you got to give her credit!" “Nobody wants Abdul, and Stevens is in there fighting,” Trump said.
The president then praised Stevens for her efforts, adding, “You got to give her credit!”
Trump called Stevens a “good, solid” Democrat, and pointed out that everyone thought she’d lose; still, she nearly won. He insisted El-Sayed wanted her backing, and they spent a day together before Stevens figured out she just couldn’t work with him.
“She tried to do it, but she can't. You can't live with him,” Trump said.
On the eve of the eve of the eve of our BIG and important election, a unifying moment has arrived, our democratic nominee for U.S Senate disavows the Rebellion PAC ad made by Hasan Piker’s uncle that claims Jews are responsible for America’s economic woes. We have learned from party leaders and emissaries, as reported in the news media that he has. On Sunday I will join with the Great Democratic leader, Jim Clyburn and Dr El Sayed for a church service in the beautiful city of Detroit. The political coalition of Black and Jewish voices that have carried Michigan and this country through so many storms to the righteous path of liberal democracy and equal opportunity for all will ring out. He didn’t offer more about what went down between Stevens and El-Sayed, or why they disagreed. Instead, he kept targeting El-Sayed.
Trump makes accusations against Michigan Senate candidate
Trump accused El-Sayed of being hostile toward Black and Jewish people but didn’t offer any proof. He went further, claiming that electing El-Sayed to the Senate would be a disaster for the country, a “devastating blow” if Michigan voted him in.
"He is a person that hates Black people, hates Jewish people, and I think probably hates all people."

The president reiterated his criticism, saying El-Sayed was a candidate who “frankly, should not be in the Senate.”
These remarks just fueled the controversy swirling around El-Sayed’s campaign. Democrats in Michigan are split over the Senate race, and the tension keeps building.
Meanwhile, Trump praised Stevens, another figure in Michigan’s Democratic politics, even though she’s from the opposite party. He seemed to respect her for standing up to El-Sayed. The whole exchange threw a spotlight on the heated Democratic primary.
Q: Do you want Haley Stevens to come to church with you tomorrow? El-Sayed: I've been very clear that I would rather not distract from the key issues of this campaign, and those are getting money out of politics, putting money in your pocket, passing Medicare for all. She wants to talk about other things.

Trump seized the moment to attack El-Sayed’s character and question his fitness for office, while giving Stevens a nod for opposing him.
