VALDOSTA, GEORGIA: GOP nominee Donald Trump addressed reporters while standing behind a makeshift brick wall at a business site devastated by Hurricane Helene in Georgia on Monday, September 30, reported the Daily Mail.

The action drew sharp criticism for the former president on social media, and netizens accused him of propping himself up while witnessing the "tragedy of others."

While visiting the city to assess the destruction left in the wake of Hurricane Helene, which hit the area as a Category 4 storm, Trump and his GOP allies did a press conference in front of the heavily damaged Chez Whaz furniture store.

The building was crushed by the storm and its bricks lay scattered on the ground. It was what the Trump campaign reportedly utilized to construct a small barrier around the speaker's podium, approximately three to four feet high.

Trump as well as all other speakers shared their comments standing behind the structure. Since facing an assassination attempt at a Pennsylvania rally in July, Trump had taken to addressing the public from behind a bulletproof glass. But on Monday, the brick wall had to make do.

Donald Trump's statement on Valdosta

Commenting on the devastation caused by the natural disaster, Trump stated, "Valdosta has been ravaged the town is very badly hurting and many thousands are without power, they are running low on food and fuel."

He promised to help the community to rebuild, after pausing for a moment of prayer.

"We'll emerge stronger, more united, and more prosperous than ever before," said Trump, adding that he would "pray to God for those who have been so badly injured" and "those that are no longer with us."

Internet slams Trump for his wall

Netizens were furious with Trump for using the bricks from the destroyed building to build a structure for his speech.

"The fact that Donald Trump had them build him a wall for his press conference in Valdosta, Georgia is infuriating," called out a user. "These people should have been out helping the community recover from Hurricane Helene, not stroking his tiny little ego for a vanity project."

"That wall was such an odd and disturbing display. The thought of them taking bricks from that business to build this weird wall just seems heartless," shared another.

"Trump is the epitome of ignorance and NARCISSISM," observed a third.

"This man literally has no soul," jibed a fourth.

"This feels like one of the worst things he's ever done. Using the destroyed pieces of building to make a 'cute little stage' is just so ridiculously disrespectful to everyone suffering," expressed a fifth.

"It's the little things that count. Like building a little wall from the broken dreams of other people," chided yet another.
