SPRINGFIELD, OHIO: Donald Trump vowed to revoke the legal status of Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, and deport them back to their native country if he wins the upcoming presidential election during a Wednesday, October 2 interview.

The majority of Haitian migrants are in the US under Temporary Protected Status (TPS). However, that has not deterred the GOP nominee and his running mate JD Vance from labeling them as "illegal" and pushing conspiracy theories of them abducting and eating pet cats and dogs, as per Newsweek

Donald Trump says Springfield is overrun with immigrants

During an interview with NewsNation's Ali Bradley on Wednesday, the former president said, "Springfield is such a beautiful place, have you seen what's happened to it? It's been overrun. You can't do that to people. They have to be removed."

Bradley asked, "So you would revoke the Temporary Protected Status?" to which Trump responded, "Absolutely. I'd revoke it and I'd bring them back to their country."

It was not clarified whether Trump intended to remove the legal status of all Haitian immigrants or only of those who resided in Springfield.

Following his debate with Kamala Harris, the GOP nominee vowed to carry out "the largest deportation in the history of our country," beginning in Springfield and Aurora, Colorado.

He has claimed Venezuelan gangs have "taken over" Aurora despite city officials rejecting the claims.

Legal experts express doubts about Trump having the ability to deport legal immigrants if he is reelected. Stephen Yale-Loehr, an immigration law professor at Cornell Law School, told Newsweek, "In general, deportation is for people who lack immigration status."

He added, "People here on parole or temporary protected status have a status, so they shouldn't be put into deportation proceedings unless a separate ground of deportability (eg, a criminal conviction) applies to them."

Internet slams Donald Trump as he vows to send legal Haitian migrants back to their country

Soon after the interview, netizens took to social media platforms to condemn Donald Trump for "demonizing" immigrants.

One wrote, "Just hatred. Nothing else," and another said, "Donald Trump made up a story demonizing an entire group of people, got mad at the world for pointing out he made up said story, and now wants to deport the subjects of the story - legal migrants - bc his fee-fees are hurt over a conflict engineered by him. Peak narcissist behavior."

"They are LEGAL immigrants, who have done NOTHING, but be VICTIMIZED by JD Vance & Drumpf so they could have another 'bad guy' immigrant scapegoat. Absolutely MONSTROUS!!" exclaimed a person.

Someone else said, "This is absolutely heartless and cruel. These migrants have built lives in the US and have contributed to their communities. Revoking their protected status and forcing them to return to Haiti, especially given the current circumstances there, is inhumane."

"It's about time they started being honest about it. They intend to end ALL immigration, and deport people here legally," remarked an individual.

Another person opined, "Trump is ALWAYS ready to UNDO what some other President has done."
