WASHINGTON, DC: President Joe Biden has stirred controversy after he claimed he has traversed the collapsed Baltimore bridge multiple times by both car and train despite the bridge not having any railway lines.

On Tuesday, March 26, Biden addressed the bridge collapse at a press conference in which he pledged to support the reconstruction of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, Maryland.

According to reports, rescuers are still searching for multiple people, while two survivors have been pulled from the Patapsco River. A work crew was fixing potholes on the bridge, which is used by roughly 30,000 people each day, when the ship struck at around 1:30am on Tuesday morning. Donald Trump slams Joe Biden's remarks about traveling over the collapsed Baltimore Key Bridge via train

Biden asserted that he was familiar with the bridge as he has used it for his travel from his home state of Delaware to Washington.

“About 1.30 am, a container ship struck the Francis Scott Key Bridge, which I have been over many many times, commuting from the state of Delaware by train or by car,” said the president.

“I’ve been to Baltimore harbor many times," he added, according to The Telegraph.

However, the bridge, constructed in the 1970s, has solely served as a roadway and lacked any railway infrastructure.

He further spoke about his utilizing the Amtrak train during his tenure as a senator between 1973 and 2009 to travel between his home and Washington.

Additionally, the Amtrak line that travels through Baltimore skirts around the city center. It does not use the Francis Scott Key Bridge to cross the river and does not travel across the harbor.

Following Biden's claims of traveling via train over the collapsed Baltimore bridge, Donald Trump's campaign took to their official X (formerly Twitter) account to post the clip of the president's speech, calling him "confused again."

“There are no train tracks on the Francis Scott Key Bridge,” read the tweet.

Inside Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse

A Singapore-flagged Dali smashed into the Francis Scott Key bridge while sailing out of Baltimore, causing extensive damage and prompting a search and rescue operation as several cars and people were sent into the river below.

Struck by the massive cargo which is a 985 ft long, 157 ft wide vessel, the collapse of the structure took place at 1.30 am.

One body has reportedly been found more than nine hours after the collision, according to the Daily Mail.

Six construction workers who were part of a road repair crew were reported missing following the collapse and several vehicles plummeted into the Patapsco River.
