WASHINGTON, DC: In a heated exchange, Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg responded to Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance's criticism of Democrats being "without children."

During an interview on CNN’s 'The Source', host Kaitlan Collins played a 2021 clip of Vance saying, “You look at Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, AOC, the entire future of the Democrats is controlled by people without children. And how does it make any sense that we’ve turned our country over to people who don’t really have a direct stake in it?”

Collins pointed out, “Now, I should note, you have two children. They were born before he gave that answer. Harris is also stepmom to children as well. But what’s your response to that?”

Buttigieg fired back, “The really sad thing is he said that after Chasten and I had been through a fairly heartbreaking setback in our adoption journey. He couldn’t have known that, but maybe that’s why you shouldn’t be talking about other people’s children."

"And it’s not about his kids or my kids or the vice president’s family. It’s about your family. People’s families whose well-being will depend on whether we go into a future led by somebody like Kamala Harris, who is focused on expanding the prosperity and the freedom, the well-being of our families. Or do you want your children to grow up in a country defined by a return to the chaos and recrimination and cruelty that was the hallmark of the Trump era?”

President Joe Biden withdrew from the 2024 race on Sunday, July 21, and promptly endorsed Kamala Harris as his successor. Harris later confirmed her bid for the Democratic nomination. Harris, who is married to longtime entertainment lawyer Doug Emhoff, has two stepchildren: Ella and Cole Emhoff.

Internet users erupt over JD Vance's comment on 'childless' Democrats

Social media users erupted in response to JD Vance's comments about childless Democrats, with many criticizing his views and highlighting the flaws in his argument.

A social media user tweeted, "Look at the pot calling the kettle black. Miserable? Have you looked at the butt that’s daily in your face nowadays? That’s one miserable orange motherflower."

Another said, "By that reasoning no males have a "direct stake " in America either."

A third tweeted, "Childless cat ladies are some of the happiest, kindest and warrior like people on the planet. And they really dislike maga felon loving scumbags like JD Vance."

"This is the party that’s trying to ban IVF right?" read a tweet.

"Not a single US president in history has given birth. Didn't seem to factor into discussion or limit them from policing women's reproductive rights. Wonder why it's suddenly an issue now?" penned an individual.
