WASHINGTON, DC: The escalating feud between the Trump administration and Democratic Senator Mark Kelly has taken a serious legal turn, with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth publicly mocking the retired Navy captain’s uniform while hinting at a possible court-martial.

In a scathing post on X on Tuesday, November 25, Hegseth ridiculed Kelly’s attempt to defend his service record, pointing out a glaring error in the senator's official photo.

The rebuke came just hours after the Department of War confirmed that it was investigating "serious allegations of misconduct" against the senator, raising the stakes from a political spat to a potential military tribunal.

Pete Hegseth hints at court‑martial via 'uniform inspection' threat

High on the agenda for the allies will be ascertaining how the U.S. intends to influence the trajectory of the war in Ukraine, as the conflict nears the third anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion. Hegseth, an Army combat veteran, reposted the senator's statement and zeroed in on a technical failure that he argued undermined Kelly's authority to lecture troops on orders.

"So 'Captain' Kelly, not only did your sedition video intentionally undercut good order & discipline... but you can't even display your uniform correctly," Hegseth claimed.

Hegseth also stated that Kelly's "medals are out of order & rows reversed," before delivering a warning: "When/if you are recalled to active duty, it'll start with a uniform inspection."

The threat of a "uniform inspection" is not merely about aesthetics; such inspections can reportedly precede disciplinary actions in court-martial proceedings or administrative reviews.

By linking the inspection to a recall, Hegseth appeared to be signaling that the administration was serious about prosecuting the "sedition" charge in a military court.

Pentagon confirms probe into 'misconduct'

Hegseth’s warning aligned with the formal announcement from the Department of War on Monday, which confirmed that Kelly was under investigation for his role in the viral video urging troops to "refuse illegal orders."

The Pentagon stated that it had received "serious allegations of misconduct" against Kelly and cited the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), specifically 10 U.S.C. § 688, which allowed for the recall of retired personnel for possible court-martial.

"A thorough review of these allegations has been initiated to determine further actions, which may include recall to active duty for court-martial proceedings," the statement read.

The Department also emphasized that "military retirees remain subject to the UCMJ" and warned that federal laws prohibited actions intended to interfere with the "loyalty, morale, or good order" of the armed forces - the precise charge Hegseth had leveled against the Senator.

Mark Kelly lists combat credentials to push back

Prior to Hegseth's comments, Kelly had taken to social media to list his extensive resume.

"When I was 22 years old, I commissioned as an Ensign... and swore an oath to the Constitution," Kelly wrote, detailing his 39 combat missions in Operation Desert Storm and his time as a NASA space shuttle commander.

Kelly seemingly framed the administration's response as an intimidation tactic by "bullies," claiming that he was being targeted for holding the administration accountable.

"I also saw the president's posts saying I should be arrested, hanged, and put to death," Kelly stated, referring to Donald Trump's Truth Social posts labeling the Democrats as "traitors."

The clash stemmed from a viral video released last week in which Kelly and five other Democrats urged military personnel to "refuse illegal orders," a move President Trump branded as "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR."
