JEFFERSON CITY, NORTH CAROLINA: A warm exchange between First Lady Melania Trump and an elementary school student became one of the most memorable moments of her visit to North Carolina on Tuesday, September 16.

During a stop at a school focused on artificial intelligence, robotics and engineering, a young student approached her with a simple request that quickly turned the formal event into a tender interaction.

Student asks FLOTUS for a hug!

While visiting a fifth-grade science classroom at Mountain View Elementary School in Jefferson, North Carolina, Melania was observing a lesson when an 11-year-old student asked her: “Will you give me a hug?”

The first lady immediately agreed and embraced the boy.

The two hugged several times, with Melania appearing delighted by the unexpected request.

She then continued speaking with the student for a while, smiling broadly as they interacted.

The footage captured a relaxed and affectionate moment between the first lady and the child, away from the more formal parts of her school visit.

The sweet exchange came during a lesson in which students were learning about pressure changes in the human chest cavity.

They later used tablets and artificial intelligence to create a video based on their classroom model.

Melania promotes AI education

During her visit, Melania stressed that American children must be prepared to understand AI if the US is to maintain its leadership in the field.

“I think they need to learn we need to lead,” she said, while also urging students to remain vigilant about the technology.

She described AI as part of their future and said children need guidance to understand what it can offer.

Melania toured the school’s media center, where students were developing chatbots to explore different career possibilities.

She also watched demonstrations involving 3D printers and robotic arms, engaging with students as they worked on their projects.

You can do anything. Anything is possible,” she told them. “The sky is the limit, right? Just never give up.”

Her visit also highlighted the resilience of the local community after Hurricane Helene disrupted students’ lives and forced schools to remain closed for more than 30 days.

Mountain View Elementary itself became part of the community’s emergency response, serving as a childcare location and later helping distribute essential supplies.
