NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Piers Morgan believes Barron Trump may have an important job ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup final — making sure his father does not create an awkward moment on one of soccer's biggest stages.

The British broadcaster weighed in on reports that President Donald Trump could be given a prominent role during the World Cup trophy presentation at MetLife Stadium next month.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Morgan joked that Barron, who is known to be a soccer fan, might need to quietly step in if Trump gets anywhere near the trophy.

Discussing reports about the president's potential role at the 2026 World Cup final, Morgan painted a tongue-in-cheek picture of how the trophy presentation could unfold if England were to win the tournament.

"I think it will be hugely popular if England were to win the trophy, if Trump wrestled the World Cup off Harry Kane and began to do a little conga," he joked.

Morgan then immediately made it clear he was not entirely serious.

"I think everyone in England would share my view that that would be absolutely magnificent! No! I think it's got the potential to be quite embarrassing," he added.

Morgan's comments reflected the growing conversation surrounding Trump's possible involvement in the ceremony.

While some supporters may welcome the president's presence at a major international sporting event, critics have questioned whether a political figure should take on such a visible role during one of soccer's most celebrated moments.

Barron Trump emerges as an unlikely part of the conversation

While discussing the possibility of Trump presenting the trophy, Morgan unexpectedly brought Barron into the conversation.

The television personality noted that Barron has a well-known interest in soccer and suggested that he could offer his father some friendly advice before any trophy ceremony takes place.

Morgan first argued that Trump was likely aware of the attention generated by his recent appearance at another FIFA event.

"I think that Trump is quite savvy about the reaction to what happened with the Club World Cup championship," Morgan said.

He then turned his attention to Barron.

"If he's not, his son Barron loves football. He's actually an Arsenal fan. I think he will quietly have a word with the old man and say, 'Look, Dad, should you get the trophy anywhere near you, don't try and grab it!'"

Donald Trump's Club World Cup appearance continues to spark discussion

Morgan's remarks were rooted in the reaction that followed Trump's appearance during the Club World Cup trophy presentation.

The president drew attention after remaining on stage as Chelsea captain Reece James lifted the trophy.

The moment generated considerable discussion online and among sports commentators, with many debating whether Trump had become too visible during a celebration that was meant to spotlight the players.

Morgan suggested that experience may influence how Trump approaches future soccer-related appearances.

His comments also come amid reports that FIFA would not oppose Trump presenting the World Cup trophy should he attend the final at MetLife Stadium.
