Pink and daughter Willow shine with standout performance before Kamala Harris’ DNC acceptance speech
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS: Pink delivered a surprise at the Democratic National Convention on Thursday, August 22, by inviting her daughter Willow Sage Hart to join her for an acoustic rendition of the 2017 hit 'What About Us.'
On Thursday, the singer known for 'Raise Your Glass' performed at the DNC with her daughter, presenting a serene duet before Vice President Kamala Harris' historic speech.
Pink and her daughter Willow take stage at DNC for first time
Pink shares her daughter Willow with her husband Carey Hart. Willow has previously performed on stage with her mother and joined Pink to record 'A Million Dreams (Reprise)' for 'The Greatest Showman: Reimagined' at the age of 7. Pink and Hart, 49, also have a son named Jameson, who is 7 years old.
Pink, marking her debut performance at the DNC, took the stage following 'The Chicks' rendition of 'The Star-Spangled Banner' on Thursday evening. Although this was her inaugural performance at the convention, Pink, aged 44, has consistently been outspoken about her political stance.
In November, the pop star collaborated with the non-profit organization PEN America to distribute thousands of banned books during her Florida concerts. The selected books for the giveaway covered topics of racial and sexual identity. Her choice to donate the books was influenced by state laws that restrict free speech in education.
For instance, the Individual Freedom Act, enacted in July 2022, constrains the teaching of systemic racism and discrimination in schools and workplaces, according to the ACLU.
Additionally, in 2023, Governor Ron DeSantis signed into law the 'Don't Say Gay' bill, which curtails discussions on LGBTQ+ topics in educational settings, PEOPLE reported.
Then, following the Supreme Court's overturning of Roe v Wade in 2022, she turned to X (previously known as Twitter) to voice her frustrations and hope for a better future, "I think all of our nerves are collectively fried from so many years of racism, misogyny, homophobia, etc. +pandemics, mass shootings, wars and the total lunacy, hypocrisy, ignorance of the GOP-it's all a bit much."
She added, "But we will stick together. Good will prevail over evil."
