WASHINGTON, DC: Shari Feehan had already endured one of the hardest moments of her life when she found herself speaking with President Donald Trump about her son.

Tyler James Feehan, an Army officer killed while serving overseas, was no longer there to tell his own story.

So his mother did it for him, describing the young man behind the uniform and the pride her family still carries.

Shari Feehan was speaking to Fox News on Tuesday, August 11, when she opened up on losing her son and the president's support to the family.

“It was such a nice experience to be able to meet and talk with the president,” Shari said. “I feel like he was very genuine in speaking with us, and we got to let him know a little bit more about Tyler and the wonderful young man that he was.”

Shari Feeha said the family was overwhelmed by the response they received after traveling to Georgia for an event with Trump, particularly when people applauded her son and his loved ones.

“That moment was very emotional, with the outpouring of support and applause for Tyler,” she said. “We are so proud of him, and it’s just so touching that the country is also sharing in that pride with us.”

Tyler Feehan's fiancee sat beside Shari as she spoke to Fox News and appeared emotional.

The family's meeting with Trump followed a solemn day at Dover Air Force Base, where Tyler Feehan’s remains were returned to the United States.

Trump offered Tyler Feehan's family a ride on Air Force One

After the ceremony, Trump offered to take the Feehan family with him on Air Force One as he traveled to Georgia.

The family accepted, and what began as a journey home after a devastating ceremony turned into an unexpected meeting with the president.

Trump later brought the Feehan family on stage at an event in Georgia, where the crowd applauded them.

He spoke directly about the soldier, describing him as “brilliant” and “respected by everybody.” “He’s looking down. He’s so proud right now,” Trump told the family.

Trump also spoke about the emotional weight of attending the dignified transfer ceremony.

“Standing there, watching... it’s very tough to watch,” he said. “It’s the toughest thing of anything I do.”

Tyler Feehan enlisted in the Army in 2019 before becoming an air defense artillery officer.

He served with the 2nd Battalion, 55th Air Defense Artillery Regiment at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He was killed while serving in Jordan and was posthumously promoted to captain.
