NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Prince Harry didn’t hold back his humor when he unexpectedly popped up on 'The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,' and his quick little dig at President Donald Trump instantly set social media buzzing.

In a skit that poked fun at America’s fascination with the British monarchy, Harry managed to sneak in one of his cheekiest one-liners in years and of course, it involved Trump.

Prince Harry jokes Americans ‘elected a king’ as he teases US obsession with royalty

During the bit, Stephen Colbert pushed back when Harry teased Americans for being “obsessed with royalty,” insisting, “I wouldn’t say we’re obsessed with royalty.”

Harry didn’t miss a beat.

“Really?” he shot back. “I heard you elected a king.”

He added another jab referencing America’s historic anger toward King George III: “And after making such a big deal about my great, great, great, great, great, great grandfather George III.”

The line instantly landed with the live audience, playful, sharp, and unmistakably aimed at Trump’s critics, who have often accused him of behaving like a monarch during his presidency.

Prince Harry’s jab reopens long-running tension between the Sussexes and Donald Trump

Harry’s joke may have been delivered with a smile, but it plays into a feud that’s been simmering since 2020.

Back then, Meghan Markle joined Michelle Obama’s 'When All Women Vote' initiative and spoke about wanting “the change we all need and deserve.” With Joe Biden trying to unseat Trump at the time, many saw her comments as an endorsement, even though she never said his name.

Harry followed with a message urging Americans to “reject hate speech, misinformation and online negativity." Trump fired back almost immediately, telling reporters: “I’m not a fan of hers… I wish a lot of luck to Harry because he’s going to need it.”

The tension cooled somewhat by 2024, but another issue kept their names intertwined, which is Harry’s immigration battle.

Prince Harry’s past admissions triggered push to revoke his US visa

Right-wing think tank The Heritage Foundation spent months trying to force the US government to release Harry’s immigration records after he admitted in Spare that he had used illegal substances in the past.

"Prince Harry repeatedly admitted in his memoir,” Kyle Brosnan, the group’s chief counsel, said at the time. “This fact alone makes him inadmissible into the United States.”

They even appealed to Trump to review Harry’s papers, raising the possibility the prince could lose his visa altogether. The lawsuit ultimately failed. Heritage lost, and the case fizzled out, but the shadow of that saga still lingers, especially whenever Harry publicly needles Trump.
