Prince William feared Meghan Markle was using Harry ‘as a stepping stone’ to fame, says royal biographer

LONDON, ENGLAND: Prince William reportedly had serious doubts about Meghan Markle’s intentions before she married Prince Harry.
A royal biographer now claims the Prince of Wales believed Markle had no real plans to remain a working royal.
Prince William believed Meghan Markle had no intention of staying in the royal family
Royal biographer and commentator Phil Dampier alleged William questioned Meghan’s motives early on.
His remarks come after Queen Elizabeth II's cousin, Lady Elizabeth Anson, reportedly said the late monarch was “apprehensive” about Markle’s intentions.
“I think, unfortunately, that confirms what I’ve been saying or thought for the last few years that, sadly, Meghan never really had any intention of staying in the royal family,” Phil Dampier told The Sun in reference to Anson’s observations.
“She saw as a stepping stone getting married to Harry to new fame and fortune. And I think that’s what initially Prince William was concerned about,” Dampier said.
He also said that William and Harry “fell out” because of the latter’s concerns over Markle.
“And now we are where we are. But to have this confirmed by somebody so close to the Queen is really dynamite,” Dampier added.
Prince Harry’s relationship with Prince William and King Charles remains deeply strained
Harry has remained at odds with both William and their father, King Charles, since stepping back from royal duties in 2020.
The rift widened after Meghan Markle and Harry accused the royal family of racism and discussed their grievances in a Netflix docuseries.

In 2023, Harry released his memoir 'Spare', which included allegations that Prince William physically attacked him during an argument about Markle.
Things worsened further after Harry gave a BBC interview, accusing Charles of influencing the courts regarding his security shortly after losing the case, while also sharing his worries about his father's life amid his cancer battle.
Prince Harry feels his family 'would never forgive' him for lot of things
In an interview with BBC News on May 3, Harry spoke about his ongoing estrangement from his family and said he still hoped for peace.
“There have been so many disagreements, differences, between me and some of my family,” he said.
“This current situation that has been ongoing for five years with regard to human life and safety is the sticking point. It is the only thing that’s left,” he added, pointing to the UK government’s decision to remove his publicly funded security after his royal exit.
Harry said some family members “would never forgive” him for “lots of things.” He also commented on Charles’ health, saying, “He won’t speak to me because of this security stuff. But it would be nice to reconcile.”
Despite their issues, he said, “I would love reconciliation with [my] family because there’s no point in continuing to fight.”
