WASHINGTON, DC: Marco Rubio has been trashed online after he claimed that if Donald Trump is elected as the new president of the US, he still won’t get the chance to sign a federal abortion ban.

When the US Senator was asked on NBC's ‘Meet the Press’ about Trump’s last month’s statement about abortion, Rubio replied, “Well, he won’t sign one because there’s no way we can pass it,” as reported by The Hill. He clarified, “I’ve never claimed we have 60 votes in the Senate and votes in the House and everything else that goes in between.”

In early April, the former president had reportedly supported state-wise abortion laws. “My view is now that we have an abortion where everyone wanted it from a legal standpoint, the states will determine by vote or legislation, or perhaps both," he shared. “And whatever they decide must be the law of the land. In this case, the law of the state. Many states will be different,” he noted.

Trump added at the time, as reported by CNN, “Many will have a different number of weeks, or some will have more conservative than others, and that’s what they will be. At the end of the day, this is all about the will of the people.”

Marco Rubio claims Trump wants to ‘negotiate with the Democrats’ on abortion policy

Rubio shed more light on Trump’s last month's remarks, claiming the former leader "wants to negotiate with the Democrats on" the abortion law.

He further explained, “That’s his goal. But that’s a statement of fact: He will never get a chance to sign that law because right now we don’t have the votes to pass.

“That doesn’t mean that’s not what I believe, it’s just kind of the reality of the politics.” Rubio was also asked to comment on Trump’s criticism of Florida’s six-week abortion ban. The 77-year-old ex-leader had reportedly called it “a terrible thing and a terrible mistake.”

Marco Rubio insists on being a pro-life

Rubio noted, “I think, even within the pro-life movement, there are all kinds of disagreement about what the law should be. Some of it is practical.” “I support any bill that protects unborn human life, but I don’t consider other people in the pro-life movement who have a different view to be apostate,” he added.

Internet slams Marco Rubio asking him to ‘give up’ his fight for abortion ban

Meanwhile, people have called out Rubio online with an X user tweeting, “They said the same thing about Roe v Wade.”

Another user wrote, “Fool us once…”

One user said, "And why should anyone believe anything amoral zero-integrity jackboot-licker Rubio says?"

The third one shared, “Give it up Marco. Two years ago, your party was claiming none of the STATES would try to pass a total abortion ban.”

“Marco Rubio, has a right to not to have an abortion. He doesn’t have a right to make a law on other people. He is not without sin. God is our only Judge. Our bodies are our own. That’s God law, First stop killing in wars, that’s what God says,” the fourth user stated.

The fifth one added, “Marco Rubio on NBC Meet The Press on Sunday, May 19, 2024, said he is anti-abortion and he supports human life, but he and his party strongly support Putin who is dropping bombs and shooting missiles on pregnant woman, babies, elderly, children and all in Ukraine to take Ukraine.”
