NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: President Joe Biden's third State of the Union address on the evening of March 7 was a fiery speech that grabbed a lot of eyeballs.

According to Deadline, final Nielsen numbers showed the viewership of the address to be 32.36 million, an 18% increase from last year. It was also Biden's second-largest audience in his address to a joint session of Congress, topped only by his first speech in 2021 with 38.2 million viewers.

Biden drew strong reactions from all quarters for his SOTU address, and among those who had high praise for him was former President Barack Obama, under whose administration the incumbent was second in command.

Barack Obama hails Biden's SOTU address

Obama took to social media platform X on March 8 and posted a clip of Biden's SOTU address, writing, "This is who we need leading the country for the next four years. Congrats to @POTUS on a powerful State of the Union address last night."

In the video, Biden is seen saying, "I see a future where we're defending democracy, you don't diminish it. I see a future (where) we'll restore the right to choose and protect our freedoms, not take them away."

"I see a future where the middle class finally has a fair shot and the wealthy have to pay their fair share in taxes," he continues to rousing applause. "I see a future where we save the planet from the climate crisis and our country from gun violence."

"Above all, I see a future for all Americans. I see a country for all Americans. And I will always be president for all Americans. Because I believe in AMerica. I believe in you, the American people."

Internet reacts to Barack Obama's tweet

Netizens slammed Obama for expressing his support of President Biden, as the following tweets demonstrate. "The puppet master congratulating his puppet on the most divisive speech in America’s history," chided a user.

"Everyone knows it’s you running this nightmare," commented another. "You belong in prison for Treason."

"We need a man leading the country who needs to be led out of the House of Representatives chamber? Really? Joe Biden is completely weak both mentally and physically. His policies are even worse. Our border and economy are both in ruins because of Biden. He’s a disaster," wrote a third.

"Powerful & loud are not the same," noted a fourth.

"Sounds like you’re saying he is mentally fit enough to be charged with taking those documents then. 😏", jibed a fifth.
