BUTLER, PENNSYLVANIA: The dramatic assassination attempt on Donald Trump has all but ensured his victory in the upcoming November elections, says veteran political strategist Dick Morris.
In a striking analysis on his WABC podcast, the former Clinton campaign consultant declared, "Functionally, the race is over. [Trump] wins if he lives. ... There’s nothing that can get into Trump’s path except a bullet."
Donald Trump survives assassination attempt after bullet missed him by less than inch
Trump, 78, narrowly escaped death at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, when a bullet missed him by less than an inch. The incident resulted in the death of Corey Comperatore, the retired fire chief of Buffalo Township, and left two others critically injured.
Additionally, the incident has not only galvanized his base but has also intensified calls from some Democratic heavyweights for President Joe Biden, 81, to step aside due to mental and physical concerns. "As grisly as it sounds, this assassination attempt didn’t succeed in killing Trump, but it probably succeeded in killing the Democratic Party’s chances this year,” Morris claimed.
The shooter, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, was promptly taken down by the Secret Service sniper. The FBI is currently investigating the horrific incident.
Following the attack, Morris emphasized the need for Trump’s campaign to take additional safety precautions, such as speaking behind a protective shield. He predicted a substantial boost for Trump and the Republicans during their nominating convention in Milwaukee this week, estimating a 10 to 15-point surge in the polls—a lead that could be insurmountable for the embattled Biden and the divided Democratic Party.
Voters are likely to remember the iconic image of a bloodied Trump with his fist raised triumphantly after being shot in the ear, Morris said, likening it to the famous Marine Corps World War II Iwo Jima Memorial statue. “It was just amazing ... This will go down in history,” he remarked. “It’s going to bolster him in the polling, obviously. The question is how much and what impact,” reported New York Post.
Meanwhile, the Democratic Party has been thrown into disarray, with 20 congressional members urging Biden to forgo re-election and pass the torch to a new candidate. However, a defiant Biden insists he will remain the party’s nominee.
Morris, who has advised both Democrats and Republicans, has been a staunch supporter of Trump in recent years, including in his 2022 book, 'The Return: Trump’s Big 2024 Comeback'.
