WASHINGTON, DC: MSNBC host Rachel Maddow called out President Donald Trump and his supporters after the president claimed that Joe Biden's administration spent $8 million "for making mice transgender" during his first joint session of Congress after taking office for the second time.

While making the claim, he asserted that "this is real." Soon it was reported that the MAGA leader may have meant to say "transgenic mice" instead of "transgender mice," resulting in a meme fest on social media.

As per the National Library of Medicine, "A major use of transgenic mice has been to determine what DNA sequences regulate the expression of a gene in specific tissues or at specific times in development."

Rachel Maddow blasts Donald Trump over 'transgender mice' claim

On Friday, March 7, Rachel Maddow took matters into her own hands to slam Donald Trump over his claim, as she said, "I know you didn't listen to Trump's speech to Congress this week – I saw the numbers. It was the least-watched Trump State of the Union or joint speech to Congress of all the ones he's given. So I know you didn't watch," as per Raw Story.

"But one of the things he said in his speech was that one of the terrible, liberal things that his top campaign donor had discovered was happening in government was research to make mice transgender," she added.

The liberal political commentator further explained that "actually, it’s transgenic mice. And transgenic mice are used in all kinds of laboratory research because mice are transgenic when they have been genetically altered so you can study human illnesses and conditions in them, even though they’re mice."

She then asserted, "It is transgenic mice you numskulls," before adding, "But sure, go ahead and shut down all the labs studying all the diseases because what are you, 5?"

Trump White House insists that the Biden administration spent 'millions on transgender animal experiments'

Meanwhile, Donald Trump's administration has tried to prove themselves right by doubling down on the claim.

The White House released an article on March 5, a day after Trump's speech, titled, "Yes, Biden Spent Millions on Transgender Animal Experiments."

It said, "Under the Biden Administration, the National Institutes of Health doled out millions of dollars in taxpayer-funded grants for institutions across the country to perform transgender experiments on mice."

The article claimed that the previous government spent $455,000 on "A Mouse Model to Test the Effects of Gender-affirming Hormone Therapy on HIV Vaccine-induced Immune Responses" and $2,500,000 on "Reproductive Consequences of Steroid Hormone Administration."

"Gender-Affirming Testosterone Therapy on Breast Cancer Risk and Treatment Outcomes" cost the Biden administration $299,940, while $1,200,000 was spent on a study titled, "Androgen effects on the reproductive neuroendocrine axis."

A further $3,100,000 was apparently spent on "Gonadal hormones as mediators of sex and gender influences in asthma," bringing the total to $8,290,053.

Having said that, none of the studies cited by the Trump White House prove that the money was spent on "making mice transgender," as claimed by the president during his address.
