Reba McEntire and Carole King collaborated for the 'Happy's Place' theme song

Reba McEntire surprised her co-stars with the new song during a table read for the upcoming show as seen in the video shared by NBC.

She explained to the cast, "I’m Reba McEntire and I have a little surprise today. Carole King and I wrote a song – ‘The Theme of Happy’s Place’ – and we’ve got it finished and now we’re gonna play it for everybody after table read."

Many cast members became emotional as they heard her special song, including Escobedo. She took a moment to talk about how incredible of a moment it was to hear the new song while sitting right next to McEntire who brought it to life.

The 26-year-old said, "We just heard the song of Happy’s Place, the theme song, and everyone was crying. Or maybe it was just me? No, everyone was crying. Absolutely amazing."

An emotional Melissa Peterman, who plays Gabby, shared, "I mean… if you can see it, my eyes are still a little bit teary-eyed. It was beautiful, and we had such a great, iconic theme song that first time around with ‘I’m A Survivor.’ But this is just… I feel like she did it again."

She added, "The lyrics are beautiful, I want to hear them again. And the story… 'I don’t know, I just called my friend Carole King and we’ll work together.' I want to hear it again. Play it again!"

Reba McEntire talks about her friendship with Carole King

Talking about collaborating with songwriting legend Carole King on the theme song, Reba McEntire said, "I emailed her and told her the situation. She said that she'd love to help out. I hadn't seen her in maybe four years, but we're friends," as per USA Today.

They met at the Los Angeles residence of King's daughter, Sherry Kondor, and started a productive songwriting session. McEntire shared, "I had the beginning and a chorus but mainly the melody."

'The Voice' star added, "Then Carole came in and wrote the lyrics and added a melody. I said, 'Carole, I really love my melody and I love your lyrics.' So she said, 'Throw them together.'"

The 'Happy's Place' theme song, co-written by Doug Sisemore, was released across all platforms on October 11. The sitcom is scheduled to premiere on October 18 on NBC.
