NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: New York City’s political landscape was upended this week as Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani secured his party’s nomination for the upcoming mayoral election, prompting swift and extreme reactions from the conservative spectrum.

Within hours of former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s concession, the New York Young Republican Club (NYYRC) issued an explosive statement on social media, urging President Donald Trump to take immediate action.

The group called for Mamdani’s citizenship to be revoked and demanded his deportation, according to the Irish Star.

“The radical Zohran Mamdani cannot be permitted to destroy our beloved city of New York,” the group posted on X, invoking Cold War-era laws such as the Communist Control Act as justification. Their statement included a direct plea to Trump aides Stephen Miller and Tom Homan to act swiftly.

“The time for action is now,” the group wrote. “New York is counting on you.”

Following Mamdani’s win, Miller didn’t hold back, citing New York City as a stark example of what he claims happens when immigration policies go unchecked.

“NYC is the clearest warning yet of what happens to a society when it fails to control migration,” Miller said. He also accused, “The entire Democrat Party is lining up behind a diehard socialist who wants to end all immigration enforcement and abolish the prison system entirely.”

In response to the NYYRC's “call to action,” another conservative group, Republicans for Renewal, stated, “It is time to remigrate Zohran Mamdani.”

Donald Trump calls Zohran Mamdani a 'communist lunatic'

Right-wing figures, including Donald Trump, slammed Mamdani’s rise as a dire warning of the Democratic Party’s continued shift to the left.

On Truth Social, Trump dismissed Mamdani as a “communist lunatic,” adding: “We’ve had Radical Lefties before, but this is getting a little ridiculous. He looks TERRIBLE, his voice is grating, he’s not very smart, he’s got AOC+3 — Dummies ALL — backing him, and even our Great Palestinian Senator, Cryin’ Chuck Schumer, is groveling over him. Yes, this is a big moment in the History of our Country!”

In contrast, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders praised Mamdani’s campaign as a beacon of hope for working-class voters.

“People like Mamdani are their worst nightmares. It’s one thing for the Democrats to be strongly against Donald Trump. It’s another thing to give working-class people something to vote for — a positive agenda,” Sanders said.

The November general election is shaping up to be a three- or four-way race, with Mamdani likely to face Mayor Eric Adams, now running as an independent, Republican Curtis Sliwa, and possibly a third-party challenge from Andrew Cuomo.

GOP lawmaker urges Pam Bondi to strip citizenship from Zohran Mamdani over rap lyrics

Republican Congressman Andy Ogles (R-TN) has ignited fresh controversy by urging Attorney General Pam Bondi to initiate proceedings to denaturalize and deport New York City mayoral candidate Mamdani, citing lyrics from a rap track he recorded in 2021.

In a formal letter released on June 26, Ogles pointed to Mamdani’s lyrical support for the “Holy Land Five”, a group convicted in 2008 of providing material support to Hamas, as potential grounds for legal action.

In the track, Mamdani rapped, “Free the Holy Land Five/My guys,” which Ogles claims may signal “sympathies or affiliations” that should have been disclosed during Mamdani’s US naturalization process.

“If an individual publicly glorifies a group convicted of financing terrorism, it is entirely appropriate for federal authorities to inquire whether that individual engaged in non-public forms of support such as organizational affiliation, fundraising, or advocacy — that would have required disclosure on Form N-400 or during a naturalization interview,” Ogles wrote.

Ogles further inflamed tensions by referring to Mamdani as “little Muhammad” and accusing him of being an “antisemitic, socialist, communist who will destroy the great City of New York.”
