Republicans want Ronna McDaniel's resignation as 'gift' as RNC chairwoman trolled over Christmas Day post
WASHINGTON, DC: Social media response to Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel's Christmas Day post was not so Christmassy, reports Newsweek.
Conservatives, including many supporters of the MAGA movement led by former President Donald Trump, expressed furious outrage over her Christmas wishes posted on X.
"Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones! Let us rejoice and give thanks for the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ, whose birth gives us joy, hope, and new life," McDaniel wrote.
In another thread, she added, "We pray for all those spending Christmas away from their loved ones, especially our troops overseas and first responders who are spending this season protecting our freedoms and families. God bless you all."
She was elected for a fourth consecutive term as RNC Chairwoman in January. She was backed by Trump when she ran for the first time in 2017. It was during this time she dropped her maiden name, 'Romney,' from public communications at the request of the former president.
Republicans want Ronna McDaniels to resign
The niece of Mitt Romney, the outgoing GOP Senator, faced frequent criticism in her more than six years at the RNC.
Calls for McDaniel's resignation from the GOP started in November when the party lost a string of elections in Virginia, Kentucky, and Ohio, according to a CNBC report. This reportedly made Trump's relationship with her "increasingly sour."
Adding to this, the unpopularity of her Christmas post has added to the fury of Republicans, who now believe she is unfit to continue as the RNC chairwoman.
Furthermore, McDaniel made recent headlines along with Trump in a notorious phone call the latter made in 2020 urging two Michigan canvassers to help overturn the 2020 election results.
