WASHINGTON, DC: Robert F Kennedy Jr recently sat down for an interview with Dr Phil, and revealed why he suspended his presidential campaign and endorsed former president Donald Trump.

The 70-year-old politician claimed that his team has polling data suggesting at least 57 percent of his voters will go for the Republican presidential nominee rather than Vice President Kamala Harris, as reported by Daily Mail.

RFK Jr did not ‘want to give the election’ to Kamala Harris

Robert F Kennedy Jr also gave his reason behind dropping out of the race. “I would likely hand the election over to the Democrats, with whom I disagree on the most existential issues,” he stated.

“What we recognized from our polling is that if I stayed in the race, it would've almost certainly swung the race to Vice President Harris. I did not wanna give the election, I didn't think it would be right to give the election to her,” he explained.

Kennedy Jr then stated, “Our polling from the beginning showed pretty consistently that if I got out of the race, 57 percent of the people who were supporting me would vote for Trump,” before asserting, “Me staying in the race could've very likely thrown the race to Harris.”

The environmental lawyer also shared that though he does not agree with Donald Trump on his “environmental stances,” he stands with most of his policies.

He told Dr Phil, “Our conversation, my conversation with President Trump, was very amiable. He talked about starting a unity party, about President Lincoln and his team of rivals.”

“I can come in and support him because of these existential issues that I feel strongly about, he feels strongly about, that Kamala is on the wrong side,” Kennedy Jr added.

RFK Jr calls Kamala Harris ‘profoundly undemocratic’

Besides, the anti-vaccine activist blasted the vice president for “not appearing in a single interview.”

He continued, “My uncle and father both relished debate. They prided themselves on their capacity to go toe-to-toe with any opponent in the battle over ideas.

“They would be astonished to learn of the Democratic Party presidential nominee who, like Vice President Harris, has not appeared in a single interview or an unscripted encounter with voters for 35 days.”

He declared, “This is profoundly undemocratic. How are people to choose when they don't know whom they are choosing?”

Kerry Kennedy criticizes RFK Jr

Robert F Kennedy Jr ended his campaign and endorsed Donald Trump during an Arizona campaign rally on Friday, August 23.

The scion of the Kennedy dynasty said at the time, as reported by BBC, “There are still many issues and approaches on which we continue to have very serious differences. But we are aligned on other key issues.”

But he was criticized by his sister, Kerry Kennedy, who released a statement with four other members of the family to X and dubbed his decision as a "betrayal of the values that our father and our family hold most dear. It is a sad ending to a sad story."
