WASHINGTON, DC: Independent presidential candidate Robert F Kennedy Jr has admitted to leaving the carcass of a young bear in Central Park after considering skinning it for meat, in a video posted on the social media platform X.

In the more than three-minute clip, Kennedy said The New Yorker learned of the incident and asked him for confirmation. However, he did not reveal when the incident took place.

RFK Jr confesses he abandoned a young dead bear in Central Park

Appearing in the video in conversation with actress Roseanne Barr, Kennedy Jr shared that he was driving north of New York to go falconing with a group at around 7 in the morning one day when he saw "a woman in a van in front of me hit a bear and killed it. A young bear."

“So I pulled over and I picked up the bear and put him in the back of my van because I was going to skin the bear, and it was in very good condition," he continued. "And I was going to put the meat in my refrigerator,” he admitted.

Ending up running late on schedule through the day, Kennedy Jr claimed to have to drive back to New York City for dinner with the dead bear in his car, following which he had to rush to the airport without stopping by his home. It was then that he came up with a plan, thinking about a series of bicycle accidents that took place in the city at the time.

"I wasn’t drinking, of course, but people were drinking with me who thought this was a good idea. And I said I had an old bike in my car that somebody asked me to get rid of. I said, 'Let's go put the bear in Central Park, and we’ll make it look like he got hit by a bike,'" Kennedy Jr mentioned as Barr and a person offscreen laughed.

"We thought it would be amusing for whoever found it or something," commented the environmental lawyer, before adding that the action garnered major media attention instead.

He also told Barr that he was about the probe into the matter “because my prints were all over that bike.” Barr, on her end, is seen listening intently, laughing and looking shocked. Kennedy knew 'it’s going to be a bad story' because he was asked about it by the New Yorker fact-checkers.

According to NBC News, a dead bear cub was found in Central Park in 2014, leading to significant media coverage. The New Yorker story about Kennedy's role in the incident has not yet been published.

RFK Jr slammed for abandoning dead bear

Social media users called Kennedy Jr out for the bizarre nature of his confession, asking how he could ever think that leaving a dead bear cub in Central Park would be construed as a 'joke'.

"TBH, in what universe did you possibly think putting a dead bear in the middle of central park would be a joke? What? How could that possibly end well in any way?" wrote a user.

"So you had time to stage that in Central Park before going to the airport but not enough time to go home to get rid of the dead bear you chose to pick up off the side of the road? And why did you pick up that bear knowing you had all these things to do?" inquired another.

"Disgusting rich people with weird weird proclivities. Gross story of disrespect, deceit & cruelty," slammed a third.

"Give it up dude. No one likes you," jibed a fourth.

"Bro what in the actual f**k. Can you be normal for like one second," admonished a fifth.

"Holy sh**balls the insanity of the story, the delivery, the inappropriate effect and Roseanne Barr there listening like this is in any way rational or funny???? This is like a fever dream," observed another.

"Even if we were to take this at face value, that's some weird s**t, dude," commented a seventh user.

"I just lost a couple of IQ points watching this," quipped yet another.
