Rob Reiner's sister stands by Nick as reports claim his health is 'rapidly deteriorating' in prison
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Nick Reiner continues to have the support of one of his closest family members as he remains in custody in connection with the December 2025 murders of filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner.
According to a source who spoke to Page Six, Rob's sister, Annie Reiner, has stood by her nephew throughout the ongoing legal proceedings. The update comes as fresh concerns have emerged about Nick's condition while incarcerated.
Annie Reiner supports nephew Nick Reiner
According to a Page Six source, Annie has remained supportive of Nick since he was charged in the deaths of his parents.
"Annie has been supportive of Nick throughout the legal proceedings," the insider said, adding, "Despite the circumstances surrounding the case, she has remained in his corner and her presence has meant a great deal to him."
The revelation comes as concerns continue to grow over Nick's health condition at Los Angeles' Twin Towers Correctional Facility, where he has remained since his arrest.
A source close to the Reiner family told the Daily Mail that "Nick no longer looks like Nick."
"He is rapidly deteriorating. No one would recognize him. He is almost bald because they have to keep his hair super short to keep the bugs out, and he is super skinny because of the intense medication he is on. His eyes are very sunken in," the insider said.
The source added that Nick had struggled with his health for years but claimed his condition had worsened significantly in jail.
"Nick has not been well for many years, but before jail some of his personality could be recognized. Not now. He is like a babbling child, totally out of it," the source continued.
It further said, "It's so bad his lawyers have a hard time talking to him." Annie has largely stayed out of the spotlight since her brother and sister-in-law's deaths, although family and friends were photographed gathering at her Los Angeles home one week after the tragedy.
Nick Reiner murder charges explained
Nick was arrested by Los Angeles Police Department officers on December 14, 2025, shortly after the incident inside the family's Brentwood home.
He was charged with two counts of first-degree murder with the special circumstances of multiple murders and personal use of a knife.
According to his parents' death certificates, they died within "minutes" after suffering "multiple sharp force injuries" with a "knife, by another." If convicted, he faces either the death penalty or life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Nick, who had reportedly argued with his parents at Conan O'Brien's Dec 13 Christmas party, had previously been diagnosed with schizophrenia and had a long history of addiction. He pleaded not guilty in February.
Rob and Michele, who married in 1989, were also parents to Jake Reiner and Romy Reiner. Jake later reflected on learning of his parents' deaths in a Substack essay, writing that he received a call from Romy while attending a celebration of life for one of his best friends.
He described the 45-minute ride to his childhood home as "unendurable," saying his world had collapsed and that he needed to get to his sister and understand what had happened.
