WASHINGTON, DC: Former independent presidential candidate Robert F Kennedy Jr shared with far-right commentator Tucker Carlson the reason behind former president and GOP nominee Donald Trump not releasing the files on the murder of John F Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States, during an interview that released on Monday, August 26.

JFK was assassinated on November 22, 1963, while riding a motorcade through the Dealey Plaza in Dallas, Texas. Since his death, there has been a long line of presidents, both Democratic as well as Republican, who have never attempted to release the files related to his death to the public.

RFK Jr, the nephew of the slain former POTUS, told Carlson that he had brought up the subject with Trump, who claimed that former CIA director Mike Pompeo had begged him not to release the files to avoid a "catastrophe."

RFK Jr's conversation with Tucker Carlson

Tucker Carlson brought up Trump's recent promise of appointing a commission to declassify the files of JFK's assassination if reelected to the White House and alleged that the CIA was implicated in those documents, during his interview with Kennedy Jr.

The former environmental lawyer said that it was odd that the files had not been released in over sixty decades since the tragedy took place.

"None of the people who were implicated in that crime are alive now, and so it clearly is to protect the institution, and that's wrong. It's just wrong, and it's wrong for a Democrat and it's wrong for a Republican," he said.

As former Fox News anchor Carlson pointed out that a bipartisan list of presidents had kept the files classified, RFK Jr responded, "I was astonished that Trump didn't declassify them, because he promised during the campaign, and I talked to (former) president Trump the first time about that this week. He said that Mike Pompeo begged him, called him, and said, it would be a catastrophe to release these. You need to not do it."

"I want to say again that Mike Pompeo is a criminal," immediately quipped Carlson.

Internet calls for files to be released

Netizens agreed with Tucker Carlson and slammed Mike Pompeo while reacting to this segment of the interview on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). The following tweets demonstrate the prevalent take.

"I think we can all agree that we’d like them declassified," wrote a user.

"Pompeo cannot be trusted," stated another.

"He’s the Swamp that needs to be kicked out of DC," commented a MAGA supporter.

"A catastrophe to tell Americans the truth? Pompeo is deep state and cannot be trusted," tweeted a fourth user.

"I think that’s a catastrophe we need to have," quipped a fifth.
