Donald Trump says there was a 'good chance' of RFK Jr beating Joe Biden in the primary

"But, overall, I thought the Democrats, he was a Democrat, I don’t know what he is right now. But he was a Democrat. They treated him very badly. I think he would have, he goes around saying he would have beaten Biden in the primary. I think there was a good chance," Trump said.

RFK Jr's running mate recently said they were considering dropping out of the race

Nicole Shanahan, RFK Jr's running mate, recently revealed to the outlet that the pair was thinking about withdrawing and supporting Donald Trump. She added that "there’s only one party that has obstructed a fair election for us, and unfortunately it was the Democratic Party."

During a Tuesday, August 20, interview on the 'Impact Theory' podcast, Shanahan also alluded to the two people's support for Trump. "We are taking a very serious look at making sure that the people that have corrupted our fair and free democracy do not end up in office," she said.

RFK Jr plans to address the nation this week

Donald Trump maintained that RFK Jr's campaign was "impossible" because of the Democratic Party and reiterated his claim that he would have defeated President Joe Biden. On Friday, August 23, the independent candidate is scheduled to speak to the country regarding his future plans.

RFK Jr did not officially announce his intention to withdraw from the race before the end of the week, according to ABC News on Thursday, August 22, although the network did cite sources who suggested that was the plan. "We are not talking about any of that," RFK Jr told the outlet.

Donald Trump opens up on border issues and job growth in the US

The former president also touched upon the topic of the border and the revelation that job growth in the United States over the majority of the previous year was substantially slower than previously thought. The preliminary annual benchmark review of payroll statistics by the Bureau of Labor Statistics resulted in an 818,000 reduction in the overall number of jobs generated in the year up to March.

"Look at NBC and you look at ABC, fake news, and you look at all of these people, CBS, they don’t even talk about the border, they don't talk about the drugs that are pouring into our country, they don't talk about the million people that they falsely reported had jobs, and they don’t have jobs, they don't exist, it was a total fraud," Trump said.

Internet calls RFK Jr 'dumb' to 'jump in bed' with Donald Trump

Netizens mocked the former president and the independent candidate as the latter will reportedly endorse the 77-year-old and drop out of the race. One X user tweeted, "RFK Jr was caught on video strategizing with Trump over the phone. Trump's strategy backfired."

Another added, "RFK Jr is just looking for anyone who will prop up his brand. If he's dumb enough to jump in bed with Trump, he deserves what he gets. The moment RFK Jr. steps out of line, Trump will toss him under the bus, just like he has so many others."

"Nobody cared about @RobertKennedyJr while he was in the race so I doubt that his endorsement of @realDonaldTrump won't do anything for him," remarked one.

"You'll agree RFK Jr is more of a liability than asset. Just like @realDonaldTrump has been rejected by over 90% of his former aides and family, RFK Jr has been rejected by his own immediate family. Of what electoral value is he? Virtually none," wrote someone else.
