CHICAGO, ILLINOIS: Former president Donald Trump said it is "quite sad" that Democrats are focusing on him during this week's conference in Chicago. 

During an interview with conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt on 'The Hugh Hewitt Show,' Trump criticized Democrats for being “out of control.” During their Tuesday night speeches at the Democratic National Convention, a number of speakers, including former president Barack Obama, made disparaging remarks about Donald Trump

Donald Trump says crime and the economy should have been a bigger focus for Democrats 

Donald Trump, in response to Hewitt's question about whether or not the assassination attempt on him in July was influenced by "rhetoric" against him, said, Well, it could. You know, I was mentioned at the Democrats’ little party that they have going on in Chicago, and it’s pretty sad,”The Hill noted.

Trump continued arguing that Democrats should have focused more on economy and crime when they spoke at the convention. He said Democrats did not discuss killings in Chicago but “I was mentioned, I think, almost 200 times.”

“And they mentioned the economy about five times,” he continued. “They mentioned the border maybe none. They mentioned crime almost none. So I mean, they’re out of control. These people are out of control. And they’re ruining our nation. Our nation is going to hell,” Trump added.

The economy and the border have both come up at various points during the Democratic convention, but from the perspective of Democrats hailing the Biden administration for its handling of those issues and criticizing Trump.

Barack Obama took a direct aim at Donald Trump

Barack Obama criticized Donald Trump directly during his vehement address for his "whining about his problems" and his complaints about the size of the crowd. Former first lady Michelle Obama attacked Trump as well, though she did not mention him by name.

“Most of us will never be afforded the grace of failing forward,” she said, adding we can’t rely on “an escalator waiting to take us to the top,” a reference to the escalator Trump came down from in New York to declare his first White House run.

Internet agrees with Donald Trump as Democrats continue their onslaught against him

Netizens mocked the Democrats while siding with the former president. One X user tweeted, "It sure is, but they have nothing to run on." Another wrote, "He's right. They are not talking about anything other than him. God forbid a policy is actually talked about in Chiraq." 



 



 

"The more they focus on him the less they have to discuss their failures. Who has time for that list?" remarked one. "They have nothing to offer the American people. It is sad," wrote someone else.
