Robert F Kennedy Jr says dad RFK would 'strongly support' his 2024 presidential election run but Internet calls it 'delusion'

WASHINGTON, DC: Robert F Kennedy Jr, the independent presidential candidate expressed confidence that his late father, Robert F Kennedy would be proud of his 2024 presidential campaign.

“I can’t think of a single issue that my dad felt strongly about that, you know, I wouldn’t check the same box,” he stated in an interview with USA Today.

In the interview, Kennedy Jr highlighted key issues such as reining in government power, fighting corruption, ending wars, and saving the environment, which he believes resonates with his father's principles.

The politician who is contending to be included in CNN's presidential debate set for June 27, said his father would "strongly support" his bid for the White House.

He further noted the shift within the Democratic Party over the years.

Speaking about his father who was killed in 1968, Kennedy said, “Americans are entitled to have their own version of who my father and my uncle, of what they would do on certain issues,” said Kennedy, who was 14 when the assassination took place.

“And I enjoy hearing those debates all the time,” he continued.

“I think I have a really clear understanding of where he came down on issues. And I’m very grateful that I believe I share his beliefs. And I share his values. And, you know, I’ve tried to live my life with the same kind of commitment to the same values," Kennedy added.

RFK Jr says he loves his family despite their endorsement of Joe Biden

In April, 15 members of the Kennedy family openly rejected Kennedy Jr's presidential ambitions as they endorsed President Joe Biden.

During a press conference in Philadelphia, his younger sister Kerry Kennedy said, “We want to make crystal clear our feeling that the best way forward for America is to reelect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris to four more years."

Despite the familial opposition, Kennedy Jr maintained a loving stance towards his relatives.

“Some of them don’t like the fact that I’m running. I debated them with information and passion and not to hate each other because we disagreed with each other. I love my family, either way," said the independent presidential candidate.

Reacting to Kennedy Jr's remarks that his father would be proud of his 2024 election campaign, one user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote, "I think most of his family would disagree!"



 

"Yet another delusion he holds," a user tweeted while another user wrote, "No your daddy wouldn't."



 



 

One user tweeted, "His father would also support Biden" while a netizen commented, "He would be ashamed. There is a reason his own family says not to vote for him."
