WASHINGTON, DC: Independent presidential candidate Robert F Kennedy Jr is facing Republican backlash over a two-decade-old video where he claimed people from red states were more likely to commit atrocious crimes and "murder you," reported Fox News.

The resurfaced video was posted on former President Donald Trump's MAGA War Room's X account on Wednesday, April 1, where Kennedy made disparaging remarks about Republican states in the country at a 2005 IdeaCity speech.

"Red state people are more likely to murder you, to impregnate your teenage daughter, to commit a violent crime against you, to commit a nonviolent crime against you, to watch Desperate Housewives on TV, to buy pornography, to buy degenerate video games like 'Grand Theft Auto,'" the environmental lawyer said, sparking laughter among the crowd.

At the time of the speech, he was a Democrat, following the legacy of his family's blue heritage.

In the resurfaced video, the White House hopeful claimed he used criteria to determine whether blue or red states were "more moral" using the standard "that most of us use to judge morality."

"I found the lowest divorce rate in America was Massachusetts, a blue state. The highest divorce rate was Texas, a red state. The lowest teen pregnancy rate was Massachusetts. The highest was Texas," he said.

The MAGA War Room resurfaced the video following Kennedy's challenge to Trump for a presidential debate after the ex-president called the independent candidate a "Democrat plant."

The nearly 20-year-old video sparked intense criticism from Republican lawmakers over Kennedy's "divisive attacks."

GOP's Sen John Barrasso, from Wyoming, wrote on X, "I'm proud to be from the most conservative state in America and represent the best of our country. RFK Jr.'s divisive attacks are disqualifying."

Similarly, Rep Lance Gooden from Texas expressed his pride in representing "one of the reddest districts" in the Lone Star State, arguing that Kennedy's attacks on America's red seats were" not backed up by facts or reality." The lawmaker slammed the White House hopeful, calling him "unhinged and further left than Bernie Sanders!"

"Texans won't forget!" he fumed.

Rep Jim Banks, from Indiana, a Trump supporter, wrote on X, "The Hoosier state is as red as they come. Far-left RFK Jr's baseless, unhinged attacks on the values of Red State America will be remembered in November."

Meanwhile, Riley Moore, a candidate for the House of Representatives from West Virginia, blasted Kennedy, stating he "is no friend to conservative red states like West Virginia!" adding, "Stop pretending this guy is a moderate."

Kennedy launched his independent race to the White House in October 2023 after dropping the Democratic candidacy. However, a majority of the Kennedy family endorsed President Joe Biden's re-election bid over RFK Jr.

Internet slams RFK Jr

Besides criticism from GOP lawmakers, RFK Jr also faced backlash from social media users for insulting the red states in the US.

One user said, "This is utterly disqualifying right here. This makes me question every thing he’s said and the evidence he provided." Another remarked, "So he's been lying . Typical dem."

"To be fair, RFK Jr is a degeneracy expert. His family is basically an institute of advanced degeneracy studies," a third user added. A fourth response read, "That's the real RFK jr, just another rich bigot from the Northeast."

Another user wrote, "He is a selfish individual not so sure I trud=st what he says about red states."

"Shite meister. Truly a degenerate," some one else said. An individual remarked, "Well he is a disgusting Liberal the worst."

Another user said, "Besides being way left of center, he's a crackhead."
