NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Independent presidential candidate Robert F Kennedy, Jr shared what he believed to be his path to the White House during an interview with Fox News contributor Raymond Arroyo on Friday, April 26.

"All we need to do is get to 33% to win the election," said Kennedy, at a time when he has been facing increasing pressure from both the Republican and Democratic campaigns, with his candidacy being labeled as a "spoiler."

"You don't need 50%. It's a three-way race — and it's really a five-way race," he added, referring to independent candidate Dr Cornel West and Green Party candidate Dr Jill Stein.

Referring to internal polling, Kennedy asserted that he was nearing the 33% mark "in several states" and contended that he held an advantage over incumbent Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump among young voters.

RFK Jr's polling stats

According to Fox News, recent public polls have shown the independent candidate polling better than any third-party candidate has since Texas businessman Ross Perot's consecutive White House runs in the 1990s.

Though Kennedy polled well among voters below the age of 35, he still reportedly trailed far behind Biden and Trump in the demographic.

RFK Jr's overall support stood at 16%, as per a late April poll by Quinnipiac. The same poll had the presumptive GOP and Democrat nominees tied at 37%. Among voters aged between 18 and 34, he managed to garner 19% support, but was still behind Biden at 30% and Trump at 34%.

Both Trump and Bidden campaigns have accused Kennedy of being a "plant" to help the other side, something that the 70-year-old has vehemently denied.

Internet reacts to RFK Jr's comments

Netizens took to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to slam the independent presidential candidate for his statement, as the following tweets demonstrate.

"This is a joke right?" inquired a user.

"There is no path lol smh. He's not going to be President," wrote another.

"Path to presidency? What are we blind? He's obviously a spoiler candidate to help Trump," stated a user.

"Like most things out of his mouth, this too is a lie. There’s no path for him," jibed another user.

"He needs to go away just like Trump," chided a user.
