TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA: Gov. Ron DeSantis proclaimed Florida "is a Republican state" in light of the prevalence of conservative values present in the state, The Hill reported.

In an interview on Fox News' 'Sunday Morning Features' on Sunday, April 7, the former GOP presidential candidate said the Sunshine State has nearly 900,000 more registered Republicans than Democrats.

"Florida is off the board. It is a Republican state. You've covered politics. We used to be a one-point state, every election hung on how would Florida go; that is not true anymore. And I think that's a good thing for the party," DeSantis told host Maria Baltimoro.

Ron DeSantis on Florida's red wave

DeSantis, who assumed office as Florida's Governor in 2019, attributed the predominance of Republicans in the state to the newcomers and the current residents switching parties.

"I do think that migration has skewed amongst people who come to Florida not because they want to change the policies to reflect in Illinois or California or New York, but because they appreciate how Florida has done it differently from where they're coming," DeSantis said.

The state head also weighed in on the impact of the Biden administration's immigration policies, claiming, "We've had examples of people that had been deported multiple times, came in under Biden's open border, find their way to Florida and then commit criminal offenses."

In March, he signed three bills to combat illegal immigration into the state. Also, he dispatched over 250 soldiers to protect the state from a potential influx of Haitian immigrants who were fleeing gang violence in their country.

Further into the interview, the host pressed on whether DeSantis would run for president in 2028, and he replied, "I don't have any plans for the future."

"I think we're focused a lot on all the great things we're doing in Florida. I am very, very confident that Florida is going to be a strong performance for Republicans up and down the ticket and we've worked very hard to bring it to this point. And I'm excited about that," the governor added.

DeSantis suspended his 2024 campaign in late January after he failed to create momentum against Trump's dominance. He later endorsed the ex-president for the November election.
