JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA: Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has announced dropping out of the GOP presidential candidate race and endorsing former President and current frontrunner Donald Trump for the 2024 election.

In a video message posted on social media, DeSantis claimed that while he did his best to fight the elites for the people of the United States, he had to quit the race because he couldn't ask his supporters "to volunteer their time and donate their resources if we don't have a clear path to victory."

Ron DeSantis pledges support for Donald Trump

"It's clear to me that a majority of Republican primary voters want to give Donald Trump another chance. They watched his presidency get stymied with relentless resistance, and they see Democrats using lawfare of the state to attack him," began DeSantis after suspending his campaign.

"I've had disagreements with Donald Trump, such as on the coronavirus pandemic and his elevation of Anthony Fauci, Trump is superior to the current incumbent, Joe Biden. That is clear."

"I signed a pledge to support the Republican nominee and I will honor that pledge. He has my endorsement because we can't go back to the old Republican guard of yesteryear - a repackaged form of warmed-over corporatism that Nikki Haley represents," he continued.

"The days of putting Americans last, of kowtowing to large corporations, of caving to woke ideology are over," he added before proceeding to thank his family and supporters for their efforts throughout his campaign.

Internet responds to Ron DeSantis' endorsement of Donald Trump

Republican supporters welcomed the governor's decision to back Trump's claim to the White House, while also lauding his efforts for the same.

"Thanks for putting up a good fight! Time to rally behind Trump and save America from destruction," wrote a user on the social media platform X.

"Thank you, Governor DeSantis. Time for Unity. This was the right move after Iowa. Nikki Haley should do the same," tweeted a second.

"In hindsight, even a perfect campaign still would’ve lost against the unstoppable force of ‘Trump + indictments.’ This is the right move. It has been my honor to support one of the best all-around candidates the GOP has ever seen. Hopefully this isn’t the last we hear from him," stated another.

A fourth tweet read, "I’m grateful you tried. Much respect and thank you for everything you’ve done in Florida. I’ll look forward to continuing to support you."

"Wow, I'm sad to see Ron DeSantis go but this is the correct decision," commented a fifth.
